Why this petition matters

Started by Graham Trickey

The A6-M60 Bypass would destroy four and a half miles of Stockport’s valleys, woods and fields. Twice the Government has knocked back requests for money for the next stage of preparations. Stockport Council’s SEMMMS Refresh is a new attempt to get the Bypass under way – this time by trying to get stronger backing from the Greater Manchester authority. SEMMMS Refresh is a transport plan that contains some useful proposals, but the Bypass (costing £500 million) is at its core. The Bypass won’t solve Stockport’s transport problems. It will take effort and resources away from better ideas. The Council must take the Bypass out of SEMMMS Refresh, and lift the threat hanging over our beautiful Lower Goyt Valley and green spaces.
