Mutadis has organized two workshops in Brussels within the framework of TERRITORIES WP3

Within the framework of the WP3 of the TERRITORIES project, task 3.3.3.4, two workshops were organized by Mutadis in Brussels on 04 and 05 April 2019 in order to test an innovative multi-stakeholder dialogue tool the “Pathway Evaluation Process” in post-accident situations or PEP-PA: this is a pluralistic evaluation exercise aiming at highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of different public policies that can be implemented after a nuclear accident, once the emergency phase is over, with a long-term management perspective.

The aim was to discuss, in the form of a “serious game “, different alternatives for post-accident management, taking into account the complexity of the post-accident situation and all the challenges faced by people confronted to a nuclear accident and its consequences. The central question is how public management strategies influence (positively or negatively) the ability of people affected by the accident to rebuild their lives. What is evaluated by the participants is the ability of these strategies to establish dignified living conditions for people (whether they choose to stay or leave contaminated areas) all along the post-accident phase and in a sustainable manner.

The workshops on 04 and 05 April 2019 gathered a set of stakeholders (radiation protection experts and representatives of civil society) to discuss in small groups of five participants around two public strategies for managing post-accident situations: a directed strategy and an open strategy. The workshop on April 04 was held in English in a “free” format: The scenarios questioning these two strategies were proposed by the participants on the basis of the material made available (disruptive events game cards and criteria for assessing dignified living conditions). The workshop on April 05 was held in French in an “exploratory” format: the scenarios were proposed by the facilitators in relation to the key uncertainties identified before the workshops.

The information gathered during the two workshops will be analysed by Mutadis and IRSN and reported in the CONCERT deliverable D9.69 (to be published this summer on https://territories.eu/publications).
