Reasonable COLA increases in a new contract shouldn't be a heavy lift--it's fair and the right thing to do-- and this is a top priority of bargaining for many AAUP members including myself.

I worked very hard including retooling the classes for our on line success. And continue to do so. I would like a recognition of this effort in a 3% raise per year.

Fair pay is also a racial equity issue and now is the time for the board to step up and put money behind the words that claim support for our Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC) who work for the university. Overall, 22.7% of PSU employees experienced housing insecurity and 16.5% experienced food insecurity in 2019 - before the pandemic. These rates were TWICE that for BIPOC employees. BIPOC employees are more likely to be academic professionals and non-tenure track employees. No university should have food and housing insecurity rates this high. You can, and should, do better.

Please prioritize the 2020 cost of living increase; COVID has presented many financial challenges to my family and I need the increase to stay up the rising costs of living in the metro area.

Family budgets are under tremendous stress. Please remember that some of our PSU employees are supporting entire families on their salaries. Please make every effort to ensure that our work at PSU is economically sustainable. I have been a PSU faculty for 20 years. This year for the first time it occurred to me that I might have to leave my employment at PSU for economic reasons. Thankfully I have passed through that juncture for now and I hope to never face that choice again.

Some people think that at the end of the story of the boy who cried "wolf" the wolf came and ate his sheep but the original ending was that the people of the village (who kept coming for the aid of the one who kept crying "wolf" for no reason) eventually lost their crops because they focused on the non existent danger. The boy got a good pension plan out of it but if he felt bad for the rest of his life. He was ashamed to know that his success was based on exploiting others.

I have been working at PSU for 10 years now. Working with PSU students has been a pleasure and working with such wonderful colleagues has been quite a privilege. But I have always felt undervalued in terms of my pay. I have always had to have at least two jobs during my 10 years at PSU in order to make ends meet and provide for my family. It would be such a nice change to have my chosen career be able to pay me an equitable wage or at least have a clear path to making a higher wage while still doing the work that I love. PSU has never done this for academic professionals like me.

Cost of living adjustments are critical to lower-paid instructor and staff positions especially since families are struggling due to the pandemic. PSU's own survey showed a shockingly high percentage of employees are experiencing housing insecurity.

As an AP, COLAs are the only wage increase I receive. I love PSU and our students. I am an alumna and have been working here for nearly 10 years. PSU is home! However, without consistent COLA increases it is getting harder and harder to support my family as costs skyrocket in the metro area.

Adjunct pay is embarrassingly low for many. I have been lucky enough to take PSU classes from instructors who are top-notch professionals basically teaching for love of their field, but this is not sustainable or fair, and they soon leave for other opportunities. PSU won't reach its potential without pay equity.
