To All,

I’d like to invite you all to an exhibition that myself and a few friends are organising on the 7th August 2010. Entitled STORMEx our aim is to promote diesel and electric modelling in the local area and show some of the projects that our members within our ‘collective’ have been working on.

The show will be held at Neville Hall in picturesque Waltham St. Lawrence, Berkshire (Full address: Neville Hall. Waltham St Lawrence. Waltham St Lawrence. Berkshire. RG10 0JP. Google Map link: http://maps.google.c...de=&q=51.485205,-0.807337&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=11.041601,39.418945&ie=UTF8&ll=51.485131,-0.80698&spn=0.00142,0.004812&t=h&z=18). Doors will be open from 10:00AM and close it as 5:00PM. Admission is £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children. Signs will be provided from the A4 to the venue and on site parking is available (In the event that this becomes full, on-street parking is available but please be courteous to local residents). Snacks and light refreshments will be available at the show, however there one of the finest pubs in Berkshire a mere 40 yards from the exhibition venue (http://www.thebellinn.biz/) for more substantial meals or sampling of local ales.

Whilst a relatively small show, I like to think that a high quality of layouts has been assembled covering a broad range of gauges, scales and eras. Including…

…Marc Smiths Hendre Lane (OO gauge, South Wales, RMweb link: http://www.rmweb.co....php?f=9&t=38983)…

…M&MDMRC’s EM gauge Shirebeck-In-Emswell (EM gauge, Lincolnshire, Early 80s, Link: http://shirebeck.fot...et/c691240.html)...

file.php?id=71556.jpg

…Giles Mockford’s Yarnham (N gauge, NSE, 1990s, RMweb link: http://www.rmweb.co....php?f=9&t=12961)…

…Trevor Hale’s Morfa Mawr (EM, 1970, Mid Wales, Link: http://www.emgauge70...ut_aberath.html)…

dscf0840.jpg

…and my own Roath (P4, 1971, Cardiff, RMweb link: http://www.rmweb.co....-roath-cardiff) will be making its exhibition debut.

Further to the above Samwell (German, Epoch V) will be making its debut and Tony Wood’s minimum space Barbers Bridge (http://www.carendt.c.../barbers720.jpg) will be there in the care of Alan Monk.

I think that covers anything - if there are any further questions please have no hesitation to either post them here, PM me or email me (s_nichollsATntlworld.com, replacing AT with @).

You’re support will be greatly appreciated.

Yours,

Pix

Looks like an excellent effort Pix - and almost on the doorstep (well within 10 miles anyway) so I'll endeavour to keep the date clear as I would very much like to see Roath in the 'flesh'.

Will there be any 'trade support' (I'm thinking particularly of that very useful chap from, I think, Bourne End or thereabouts who does lots of useful tools and stuff at small shows in our neck of the woods and the ubiquitous Mr Robertson who always seems to pop up at shows round here)?

If you can do even half as well as the small show DEMU ran in the village hall at Knowle Hill a few years back you'll be onto a winner.

Looks to be a cracking little show, I'll try to make it up for this one.

Marvellous - looking forward to meeting you Matt...

You can count me in.

...and it'll be good to catch up Chris! Phil B should be there with some of his British HO stuff too.

Feel free to come have have a play Mike! We all want to keep the atmosphere nice and relaxed, without the 'them and us' feeling between the operators and punters that I feel you get at some exhibitions.

It's been quite tricky to decide what to do with trade - as it's a new show, the amount of punters and the amount of cash that's likely to flow is an unknown quantity so we felt traders may be hesitant to coming along. Originally we had Railwayania lined up as they offered a good range of bits (RTR stuff, detailing parts, spares etc...) but sadly Godfrey had to drop out as they need the man power down at the Plymouth show. We've got a few more irons in the fire yet though - I'll keep you all posted.

Greetings from South Africa!

When I'm back in a weeks time I will do a proper update to the main post at the top with the latest information, however I'm very pleased to say that etching-wizard Brian Hanson and the Shawplan will be at the show for all your detailing bits needs. There will also be a bring-and-buy stand for people to tout their wears, I will upload the form for anyone wishing to sell anything when I do the main update.

Right, back to the braai....

It appears to be non-existent - unless you count taxis (Twyford station is quite good for taxis and I would estimate the likely fare as around a fiver judging by their usual charges, unless they are into market pricing).

There is a 'bus service from Bracknell/Maidenhead according to what I have managed to divine out of the 'net but it looks pretty dreadful. A good net search might find you more as the village does have a website.

Definitely a bit too far to walk (for some of us  ) as Google Maps gives the distance as 3.4 miles but then on the old BR scale that only equates to 70 minutes of walking and it's pleasant countryside.

At this stage it is my firm intention to go but as Mrs Stationmaster is awaiting details of elective surgery 'sometime in the next month' I can't be any more reliable than a statement of firm intent at present as she will have mobility restrictions post-op (and I don't know either if my dear offspring will want to accompany me). In summary what all that muttering means is that I might be able to offer a seat in a motor vehicle to one or more persons at a time to be guesstimated in both directions as Twyford station is not much off my route - but alas I can't be sure until much nearer the time.

My Plan A involved train to Reading or Twyford and cycling from there. If the weather's nice it should be quite pleasant...

Reasonably level too apart from going up to Ruscombe (if you go that way) but watch out for loony car drivers ;) , there seem to be loads of 'em round this part of the world. Oh and take care where you put your bike on the Turbo - lots of passengers detraining/entraining tend not to take care if there's a bike in their way.

The good bit is Twyford station now has lifts to all platforms so at least you can avoid the mountainous stairs it is now blessed with.

Level? I was hoping for a hill or two ;) As for crazy drivers, have you tried cycling/walking/driving in Southampton lately?

Afternoon all,

Just a little reminder that the show is rapidly approaching (A little too rapidly as I attempt to get Roath looking presentable for it's inaugral exhibition!)

Public Transport: As Mike mentioned above there is a bus service although it is a lot more limited that I'd of ideally liked. There is a timetable here: http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/public/tdbus_courtneycoaches_route4and4c_leaflet_2010_05_29.pdf (Page 2). I'd love to have the ability and funds to lay on a heritage bus or something but for a show of this size it's just not practical (although it'd be pretty cool to have an old Thames Valley LS shuttling around). Assuming the show is a success then a different venue with better transport links will be a priority for next year.

Walking/Cycling: The route from Twyford Station to the hall itself is beauitful. There is a route that mainly avoids the road (and more or less follows the railway line) I can write up if there is demand which is just over 2.5 miles according to GoogleEarth.

Driving: We shall provide signs and will also post up directions from major spots once I've finished them off. For anyone with SatNav then the postcode given in the original post is what you need.

If there are any questions at all then please either PM me or post them in thread, I'll do everything I can to give you all the information needed.

All the best,

Pix

PS - I should have some various castings that are left overs or slight seconds from Roath. If anyone's interested then please give me a nudge - I'll either be behind the layout, roaming around the hall or in the corner of the pub when it all goes wrong...wink.gif

Definitely interested in the possibility of some castings or your inclination to do some more for the future.

I was really looking forward to this show Pix, but F I L is going into dock tomorrow for a triple bypass, and I'm the only car driver in the family apart from him.

Looks like Phil's taxis will be busy for the next six weeks !!!

Hope Stormex is a success so I can make it next year Pix

On a slightly different note, my mrs is learning to drive and I am trying to offer moral support. Anyone looked at the plethora of crap road signs which have sprung up in the last twenty years !!!!

I'll bring my bits box then!

I'm sorry to hear that Phil but here's to a speedy recovery! You're still more than welcome to pop down my way for a natter and messing around with Roath/resin. We'll sort something out off-board.

And just for fun amongst the Yarnham house fleet will be an all new freight locomotive:

Severnside Locomotive Company's "Osprey" (class 65) Prototype/Demonstator brought to you from the depths of my imagination! biggrin.gif
