FAQs (last updated 3/3/20)
  1. Do proposals need to be submitted through GDO / routed for on-campus approvals? No
  2. What happens after we submit our proposals? The Cal Poly Provost will review and prioritize prior to submitting to the CSU STEM-NET committee for final review.
  3. Can a non-STEM faculty member submit a proposal as a PI if it is focused on STEM education research AND they can demonstrate a possibility of funding from the NSF or similar agencies for their project? YES
  4. Can a non-STEM faculty member serve as a Co-PI, whether or not they can demonstrate a possibility of funding from the NSF or similar agencies? YES
  5. Can the focus of the STEM education research be on informal learning or STEM outreach? Maybe - STEM-NET is looking to fund projects that advance knowledge and practices related to STEM learning at the university level. So: can you study Cal Poly and/or other university students involved in these projects?
  6. Can the proposals have PI teams from multiple CSU campuses? YES. Ideally, one proposal will be submitted by one campus with a combined budget, and the budget would be split to multiple campuses if the project is funded. However, because Provosts are prioritizing prior to their submission to CSU STEM-NET, you may want the proposal to be considered by multiple Provosts for prioritization (as time allows). (Please contact jlehr@calpoly.edu with questions.)
