Sene-Gambian Scholars Exchange Preliminary Application Form
The Sene-Gambian Scholars Program is forming a new cohort of scholars, currently in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, who will travel to Senegal and The Gambia in the winter of 2024 and host their peers from those countries in the spring of that year. This form is an application to become a part of that cohort and engage in the preparation work that will occur during the spring of this school year and the fall of 2023. We are seeking eight motivated students to join the four who are already part of the program.

The program's activities include team meetings focused on learning about West African geography, history, arts, and culture. There will also be a field trip to "Little Senegal" in Harlem to visit the African market and have lunch at an authentic Senegalese restaurant. Other activities will include fundraising events to benefit the program's scholarship fund, which supports families that cannot afford the full cost of the exchange trip. A basic principle of the program is that it should be accessible to all students.

Please respond thoughtfully and completely to all of the questions below, which will help us to determine if this program is a good fit for you. Also, share your responses with a parent or guardian before submitting the application. We will reach out to you after we receive your response.

Please note that there will be an informational meeting for parents and students after the applications are reviewed and the Sene-Gambian Scholars team has met several times. That meeting will take place in the spring on a date to be announced.

Thank you for your interest!
