Radical Self-Care Series: Fostering Self-Care through Community Care with Coy Griffin '17 RSVP

ABOUT SERIES: The Clarkson Chief Inclusion Office and the St. Lawrence University Office for Diversity & Inclusion have collaborated to create a self-care series open to all and focused on the needs and healing of BIPOC students. This semester we will have sessions addressing: finding and caring for your community as a form of self-care, creating generational wealth & financial wellness, unpacking intergenerational trauma, decolonizing health, and self-care through creative expression. Every other Friday starting on Friday 10 Sept. 2021 we will host a different session.

 

WORKSHOP: During this session, Clarkson alum Coy Griffin - an Afro-Latinx entrepreneur, writer, and highly-acclaimed speaker, will join us for a moderated conversation about how to nurture community care, the difference between self-care and community care, and give some tips and tricks on how to make connections with new friends, mentors, the international community, etc.

 

BIO: Coy Griffin is a Fashion Technologist and Analyst, Educator, Author, and TedX speaker. She is the Chief Operations Officer of the Fashion Education Group which is the holding company for the Council for International African Fashion Education (CIAFE) and Fashion Scholar. With the organization’s headquarters in London and offices in Accra and New York.

Griffin is a guest lecturer specializing in topics related to fashion analytics, technology, and operations with experience teaching at Virginia State University, the London College of Fashion. She has also worked with NIKE and Black Girls Code. Griffin works with fashion organizations to integrate the latest technological innovations with the creative world. She has been featured in media outlets such as Blavity and New York Fashion Week and often participates in educational and interactive events in Accra, Ghana.

Griffin is the author ‘Leveraging Tech’ and contributing author of the forthcoming book ‘Fashion Marketing in Emerging Economies’ due to be published in late 2021 by Palgrave Macmillan. Griffin has previously worked within analytics at IBM, Johnson & Johnson, and a variety of Fashion Technology startups. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics obtained from Clarkson University and presented a Fashion Technology TedX speech at her alma mater.

Griffin’s mission is to promote the education of fashion technology and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) opportunities in underserved and underrepresented communities. Her company, Your Own Creativity (YOC) consults fashion brands on the right way to use technology and analytics to grow their business.
