About this event

Please join the Rhode Island Center for the Book along with the Rhode Island Festival of Children's Books and Authors for a VIRTUAL LIVE event with Sonia Sotomayor. Every child who attends this event, in person at Lincoln School, will receive a signed copy of one of Sonia Sotomayor's books. This event will take place in the Music Center at Lincoln School with Sonia Sotomayor on the big screen. So even though Sonia Sotomayor will be virtual, the presentation will be interactive with Sonia Sotomayor both taking and answering questions. We will also have two food trucks, Burgundian and Twisted T's Cones, if you would like to stay for dinner, and most Festival authors/illustrators will be in attendance to buy and sign books.

Sonia Sotomayor was born in the Bronx, New York. She earned a BA from Princeton University and a JD from Yale Law School. She served as Assistant District Attorney in New York County, and then as a litigator at Pavia & Harcourt. In 1991, President George H. W. Bush nominated her to the US District Court, Southern District of New York. In 1997, President William Jefferson Clinton nominated her to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. President Barack Obama nominated her as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on May 26, 2009, and she assumed this role August 8, 2009, becoming the first Latina to ever hold such a high position. She is the author of My Beloved World, Turning Pages, The Beloved World of Sonia Sotomayor, Just Ask!, and Just Help!
