Neither This, Nor That #2

Treading the Traitor's Path: Out Bad

Rate this book
Winner NY Literary Magazine 'Best Story Award' 2017.

Fate is a fickle mistress. No matter a man’s desires, she tends to give with one hand, and take with the other. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter to her, as long as there’s balance.

Ralph Lewis, otherwise known as Po’Boy, made one decision that changed the trajectory of his entire life. On the losing end of a schoolyard fight, he’d been on his back in the dust, glaring up at the boy who’d flattened him. Had watched unbelieving as that same boy stretched out his hand, offering to help Ralph to his feet. Against every instinct, he had accepted.

In that instant, he went from friendless pariah to having a partner and ally. For the first time in his life, he was respected... and feared. Po’Boy spent the next decade defending his position at his best friend’s side. Life was good. Fate has a way of taking back the reins, though.

A long-ago action places him directly in the crosshairs of their enemies, and circumstances force Po’Boy’s hand. Members of motorcycle clubs, men like him who live an outlaw’s life don’t treat kindly with traitors, and in their world, that is what Po’Boy has become.

With events threatening to pull him away from everything he holds dear, he’s made to walk a careful line to keep those he loves safe. Bound by silence, for his brothers’ sake, he’ll suffer through the worst thing that can happen to a man who lives and breathes the brotherhood. Out Bad.

Audio – 5 ++ stars for Kirt Graves’ performance!
Story – 4 Stars

I don’t really care much for motorcycle club themed romances these days because there are few things about the culture that I find offensive as a woman. But I can’t resist this series because when it comes to the romance, I’m totally convinced that the couples (in this case the trio) are made for each other.

I liked how Wrench (Ty) struggled with is feelings for Po’Boy (Lewis) and how the romance wasn’t only about the heroine, Crissy. It really was about the three of them, and the chemistry was off the charts!

Well to say that I totally enjoyed this book so much more than book one really hurts me because I loved Twisted and Penny's story! They are fucking fabulous! Po'Boy, Wrench and Crissy...OMG! I absolutely fell in love with all three characters!

To feel the need to hide who you are from the people who are supposed to love and accept you, no matter what, is such a sad, hard and scary thing to do. Thing is I totally felt like both clubs would have not only understood Po'Boy and Wrench, but accepted them for who they are. Whether they like just men, just women or both. Of course there's going to be a few in the crowd that will let their prejudices get in the way of the club and the acceptance, but that's life and you can't really change a person whose dead set on judging someone because of who they love. Sad but so very true!

Quick take:
1) Po'Boy: Super hot, sexy and a total alpha, mixed with vulnerability but filled with so much love to give!
2) Wrench: Refer to Po'Boy! ;)
3) Crissy: Sweetest, toughest gal ever!
The perfect combinations for a triad!

There's so much I want to say but in doing so will ruin the story for future readers or future potential readers so I'll keep it simple. This is definitely a page turner, while Po'Boy, Wrench and Crissy are the main focus in this story, their developing relationshup so precarious but beautiful to watch, we also get to witness three clubs work together to get shit done and protect their people. I will admit Po'Boy got in a sticky situation due to his poor judgment in partners but he wasn't cruel or mean to those he loved and cared about. He was the protector, the caregiver, he cherished his lovers.

So much going on, nothing to confuse the reader, but it is paramount to read Twisted's story first so this second installment can make sense and all of the players can be understood. I will say this, Sam Rotain was a bigger bitch than her sister..these psychos deserved everything that happened to them because two meaner bitches I've never met!

MdM has certainly created a most interesting world with this new series and I for one have fallen deeply in love! I cannot wait for Retro's story!

Anyone who loves MC stories with character depth and lots of hot action will love Treading the Traitor’s Path: Out Bad by MariaLisa deMora. The book starts with Po’Boy (Ralph Lewis) working to get information from a source and being called a traitor. Later, he is so afraid of losing the MC life he loves and the people he loves because of his secrets. If discovered, his secrets will put him “out bad”, shunned by all.
This story is about acceptance of who we are, where we come from, and what we have to do to get the life we want. While Lewis, Chrissy, and Ty figure out how they can be together, PO’Boy and Wrench keep secrets to stay safe in their chosen life. Old enemies, seen and unseen, lurk to tear them apart.
I consider this another MariaLisa masterpiece.

This is such a brilliant series and I really can’t decide which of the first two books I’ve enjoyed most. Po’boy, Twisted’s lifelong best friend and second, was wonderful in the first book and he’s even better in his own story. When Twisted finds his HEA with Penny, Po’boy finds himself adrift as he is forced to confront the nature of his feelings for Twisted - and other men.

Twisted is President and leader and Po’boy has his back - even when it forces him to do the unthinkable, to live with ghosts, and to sacrifice himself for the greater good. This story is possibly grittier than the first one because it is Po’Boy’s job to do the dirty work.

I loved Wrench with Penny in the first story and I loved the connection between Po’Boy and Wrench from the start. I love the shared need for escape. For identities beyond the MCs. Wrench understands Po’Boy’s life because he lives a parallel one.

Crissy was a surprise - but she works. She’s tough. She’s smart. She’s sexy. And she holds her own with dangerous men in a world she doesn’t quite understand.

There are a few incredibly steamy scenes in this story -and a tiny bit of kink. But this isn’t just erotica. Just like the first story, the author combines the intensely personal aspects of this story with the gritty, often brutal world of the MC. The combination is explosive. Because of the threats and risks posed by rival clubs, Po’Boy and Wrench’s personal relationships are more intense. But Wrench and Po’Boy’s secret personal relationship also puts both men at risk among the MC brothers who would otherwise have their backs. I loved the action, the drama and the angst.

I love these books! This one really won’t stand alone - readers wanting to follow the complex MC politics and rivalries need to start with the first book.

I liked this second book a bit better than the first one. The M/M/F aspect is one I prefer so this was right up my alley. Besides the m/m aspect, I felt like the author might have had a stronger connection with the characters as a throuple then she did with Twisted and Penny as a couple in the first book.

I liked the realistic way that everyone felt each other out, afraid to step out of the dark. Including Ace, Twisted, Retro, etc.... I did not like the way Crissy just blurted stuff out without thinking, it was naively reckless and annoyed me.

I should add... kudos to the sexy/dirty talk and inventive sex scenes.

I gave this book 4.5 Stars!!

Holy Amazballs!!! I thought I love Twisted and Penny story, I have to say they still own a piece of my heart and mind but Po'Boy, Wrench, and Crissy have took up a bigger piece of my heart and mind. I don't want to give to much away, because I wont others to enjoy their story like I did, so I will keep it simple. This book is a page turner. From the beginning I couldn't turn pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next, it was like I had to know what was going to happen to these 3. This book bring plenty of heat, angst, drama and action. You will be pulled in and will not know what has hit you.

Fate is a fickle mistress. No matter a man’s desires, she tends to give with one hand, and take with the other. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter to her, as long as there’s balance.

Sooooooo addictive!

This might be Twisted's enigmatic sidekick's story, but in true MariaLisa deMora fashion, Po'Boy's portrait is shallow and indistinct on face value - a play of shadow and light that only comes into true focus through the development of the two characters that make him whole. Crissy captures the heart of slick, detached Lewis with one humbling plea that takes her from vulnerable girl to a strong woman asking for what she wants and knowing she can handle what she gets: "Please love me". Not many writers could pull off the dichotomy of a character with the emotional breadth enabling her to battle body issues and openly grieve her dead sister whilst allowing not one but two badass men into her bed and her heart. And Ty / Wrench, whom we met as an angry, jealous friend (wishing for more) to Penny in the first book of the series, is developed into a man capable of conquering personal, societal and club inhibitions and chasing happiness without labels. For all his slickness and bravado, his aloofness and detachment, Po'Boy emerges as the big guy whose strength is only at its greatest when he's happy, and he's only truly happy with these two people he loves at his side... Society and club be damned.
This is a brilliant story that tackles a number of difficult issues with sensitivity and the lightness of touch that distinguishes an awesome author from a good writer. I found it so addicting that I literally couldn't put it down during my long haul flight from Dubai to Melbourne (and am now so sleep deprived I have no idea if I'm making any sense!!).
Well worth the wait!

This was soooo d@mn GOOD!!!!

OMFG! This is MariaLisa deMora's HOTTEST book written. I expected so many great things with this book and what was delivered went BEYOND my expectations. I have never been so turned on while reading a book.

I mean, I anticipated the sensational MC lifestyle that this author is notorious for as well as how exquisite her writing is...but this story outdid every previous book of hers that I've read.

Out Bad is the story Po'Boy's lives. His life with Incoherent and his life outside of the MC and away from his brother, and the strong-willed, independent yet gentle and kind woman that helped build the bridge that made it possible for him to bring both lives together and be whole.

This had a suspense building storyline with MC drama, some danger for the characters that threatens to end it all and so much amazing and passionate heat that intensified it all. HOT D@MN, this book was hella good!!!

FAVORITE QUOTES:
"Yeah, I wanna f*ck. Wanna f*ck you, beautiful. Make you come with my mouth. I'll eat you. Make a meal outta what you'll give me. Wanna hear you moan my name."

Hair wild around his face from her fingers, he was living perfection. She didn't see the scars from a hard life, didn't see the marks left by his passage through the world.

We met Po'Boy in This is the Route of Twisted Pain and I immediately was intrigued. Now in Treading the Traitors Path, I've become utterly fascinated by him. Learning his story and him meeting his person / persons brought so much to his story.
I just didn't want to put it down. Life got in the way, having to force myself too, didn't really put me in a good mood. But once settled, I was able to read more and nothing stood in my way to finish this.

I just have all the feels. I felt like I was on a hot wild ride with awesome characters m, great depth in the storyline, plus a side note, it was good to read Penny and Twisted. Brought a lot to the table. Ace, Retro, Pony, just loved them!

Can't wait for more. Always a joy to read her stories. I'm a big fan!

"I got this.

MariaLisa deMora took me on a ride to a place I wasn't expecting to go. She didn't pull her punches and I left myself wide open. In spite of having read her previous books, knowing to expect the unexpected... she gets me every time. That's why I keep coming back for more. I love it.

I met Po'Boy in This Is The Route Of Twisted Pain. He and Twisted were in school together. They've had each other's back for years. I learned some of his story in that book, but there are some things that not even his best friend knows. Secrets too dark to see the light of day. A painful past that he prefers to stay buried. Too bad it doesn't.

His club means everything to him. His brothers are his family. He'd do anything for them. Of course that's something that they all say, and they mean it too. But seldom does the time come when they actually have to follow through. Does anything mean everything? Is that the price he will have to pay?

I really enjoyed spending more time with Twisted and Penny. I was reminded of what made them so special. As with all new series, it takes time to get to know the characters. As the series progresses and you spend more time with different ones, they become your family and you become invested in their lives. Since Out Bad is only the second one in the Neither This, Nor That series, there are hopefully many more for me to fall in love with. I was able to spend some time with Wrench, Pony and Retro this time around and I'm hoping that I'll get to know them even better in the near future.

That's one thing I love about this author's writing, when she chooses a character to focus on, she puts her readers inside their heads and their hearts and by the end of the book we've bonded. She gives them a voice that's so clear I can hear them in my head. I especially loved Po'Boy's dirty mouth during sexy times, and his sweet twang when he was being affectionate. I love the witty banter between friends and the stories behind their road names. They aren't thrown out randomly, they have meaning behind them.

And of course I enjoy the suspense that is present in every story. I like that the club has friends and enemies. I get to meet characters that offer support and enemies that make my blood boil. The suspense is always present and the outcome always has a twist that I'm not expecting. The bar is set high, and I'm never disappointed. I look forward to every new release from this author. Retro is on my radar and I can't wait to get my hands on him. The line forms here...

Ok I have to say this review was totally unexpected in the way that I had started this book and I couldn't pass the first few pages.
I honestly don't know why but I couldn't get into this book (Lovers of this book don't hate me just yet I have good things to say about this story).
MC books are not my usual go-to genre, however I was drawn to the synopsis and was in desperate need to get my hands on this book. I was lucky to have been given the opportunity to receive an ARC.
Well I claim insanity and perhaps the fact I am not a native English speaker because I swear I just couldn't get into it. I left the book for a few hours then a few days, tried again and sadly nope it wasn't working. I gave the book a DNF and left it at it. But quitter I am not, so I said, let me give it one more go because I hate not finishing something and I know there is something in this book that calls to me. Well it was like I was reading a completely different story! Suddenly things started to make sense and I got more and more into it. The more I read the more I liked it, that feeling of accomplishment started to make its presence known LOL.

Well I finished the book and I loved it. It had drama, action, extremely complex yet entertaining dialogue and plenty of sweaty, dirty sex. There were MF/MM/MMF elements which had me fanning myself at times and kept the temperature rising, but also had plenty of emotion. The story is more than just two guys and a girl going at it. The build up to their first encounter is heart-stopping and provided the reader with a sense of urgency to read on. But the MC world is so multidimensional that there were other things happening in the background between different clubs; things like betrayals, lies, plots that it had me on the edge of my sofa and at time bitting my nails. Both male leads are different in character, yet emotionally they have both been looking their whole lives for that something that could ground them and give them a bigger purpose. Each had a past of meaningless relationships and particularly PoBoy had engaged in plenty of one night stands. Never in a million year did they think that sudden attraction was going to become their undoing. Chrissy is a beautiful FL and she is the glue that binds them all together, she's as badass as she is fragile. I loved their connection.

In overall I gave this book a 5 star rating. If at first you don't succeed, Try and Try again.
I receive an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.

What did I just read?! Is my kindle still working? I'm pretty sure it combusted into flames while reading this story. RED HOT READ for 2017. Not what I was expecting at all!
I tend to stay away from ménage a trois, because for me it's hard to say there's any kind of conflict except for jealousy, and the ending kind of leaves things unresolved and unrealistic. NOT THIS BOOK! The best one out there guaranteed.
Po boy has spent a majority of his life on the defensive, from being that kid picked on at the school yard, to defending his best friend in his motorcycle club. Book two picks up right where book one left off- (another must read) and we're given a front row seat to what it's like to not fit the stereotypical MC romance. We see a blossoming relationship between Wrench, Chrissy, and Po boy , and we're thrown right back into the world of action and mayhem.
It's easy to connect with all three characters, even though there is a ton going on in the story. There's so many twists and turns, you definitely must take your time reading and savoring this story. Start with book 1, and when you finish picking up your jaw off the ground after you're done with book 2, I'll be eager to read your 5 star review as well.

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

So, I have seriously no words. I have read this authors books before, but seriously this series is just WTF so freaking good

Dark, Twisted, harsh, painful and raw. Po'Boy lives for his club, his brothers and his family, there is nothing he wouldn't do for them.
I love how detailed each character's story was and it made you actually feel like you are living there past with them.
Each one has their own story, but what amazes me is how they each come together. Through all the suspense, drama, love, freaking HOT scenes and acceptance you see what makes them who they are. It never seems to amaze me how this MC family works, people from different backgrounds, no matter what/who you are, once you are connected to your brothers, they will go to any length to protect their family.

Freaking amazing story and I am on edge to learn more about the other new characters, friends and enemies alike.

What a ride! This book was fantastic. I absolutely love Po'Boy, Wrench and Crissy! I loved getting to know Po'Boy in Twisted's book and I wanted more and boy did I get it! The relationship between the three is dynamic and powerful. You can truly see how the three former a cohesive unit. The way they come together throughout the course of the book shows you the deep love that they have for each other. The twists and turns that are part of the MC life are here and they lead to some great soul searching and sacrifice from Wrench with a great resolution. I cannot tell you enough that this story is fantastic, and true must read. Impatiently waiting game for the next story.

This is the second book that I read from this author and the second in this MC series and I have to tell you that I totally enjoyed this book. The relationship between these characters is amazing, not only the personal, sexual relationship, but the bond that they develop that is more deeply seated than most "brothers" in a MC, and that is because it is deeper. Add to the mix, the beauty that is the one who grounds them, the glue in their relationship and you have not only a hot MC read but a story of three people who need each other more than for the physical aspects, but the emotional aspects of the relationship as well.

I also loved being able to see the characters from the previous book and could feel the pain that Twisted felt when Po Boy told him he was leaving. The bond between them is more than brothers, more than blood even though they are not blood related. They had each other's backs since they were young and everyone knew it, even to this day they were a force to be reckoned with. But Twisted has Penny, and Po Boy cannot have what makes him happy and be in the MC. It would destroy what they had.

This is a well written story, which for me was a treat as I was able to read abut places that I know, that I have been to and that made these characters more real to me. The characters are extremely well developed and quite complex. Both men dealing trying to come to terms with their feelings and wondering what that made them, and then trying to understand what they were feeling for each other. And then there's Crissy who is their girl. These three are a match made in heaven. But the guys are MC, and something like this getting out could destroy them. Destroy them all!

Highly recommend this series, and this book. You will love Ty (Wrench) and Lewis (PoBoy) and Crissy's story!

** JOSIE'S REVIEW **
4.5 STARS

Just like her previous book This Is The Route Of Twisted Pain, MariaLisa deMora took me on another wonderful journey. A journey of acceptance and love. Every time I read a book by this author I’m left feeling emotionally satisfied.

We learned a little bit about Po’Boy in this book. I knew his past was dark but I was glad to learn more about his harsh past. What I didn’t know was just how painful and raw it would be. The club, his brothers and his family are his priority. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his club even if it means to deny his true identity.

I love how the author takes her time introducing these very complex characters. There are three in this book Po’boy, Wrench and Chrissy. We get know each character’s back story and are really able to connect with them on a personal level. Each character has a purpose and in this particular story I got to see why they truly had a special connection.

Chrissy, Po’boy and Wrench each have a story to tell and each story screamed to be told. I enjoyed how we get in their heads and get to know their feelings, fears and fantasies. These three are hot, sexy and infectious. While this story brings three people together with the promise of love and acceptance we also get some suspense as an added bonus, after all this is an MC read. We are introduced to new characters in this book, not only friends but enemies. Just when I thought things would settle the author brings thing up a notch. Yes this story focuses on Po’boy but it also focuses on Wrench and how they both feel about their true identities and if they will be accepted by the MC and the brothers. Highly recommend!

Buckle up boys and girls, your unconventional bad boy is back! In this installment of your favorite bikers, we get up close and personal with Po'boy. VP of the club and best friends with Twisted, the president, Lewis as he's known to his special encounters bears a lot of weight on his shoulders. He unwinds from that by sharing his bed with anyone, male or female, that strikes his fancy.
This is where we get to meet Crissy, a young woman breaking out on her own for the first time. Men like Lewis aren't usually her type but he's just so tempting. When Wrench, another member of the club is thrown into the mix, water meets boiling point on this menage!
This is a hot read, with your delicious alpha males protecting and claiming what's theirs. When Crissy gets tangled up in some nasty business, it's up to the club and the two men who's heart she owns to step up to the plate and take what's theirs.
I will say it took me a little bit to wrap my head around some of the southern lingo. Nothing too big but every once and awhile, I had to stop and think what a word would mean. All in all, some scorching hot scenes and a well thought out and brought to life story to go along with it! Definite recommend! 4/5

Omg .. this one was addictive! I live and breathe for books like this!

Fabulously Naughty!...Wickedly Hot!

Po’Boy is going through a lot in his life. He holds a secret that can destroy everything he loves. I especially loved his character. I felt like the author wrote him with such depth that it literally felt like I was sharing his same feelings if that makes sense. I loved how good of a friend his character was to his best friend. Crissy's character was fun and full of spunk. I liked her a lot as well.

This is my first book by MariaLisa deMora and it will not be my last. MariaLisa delivered a 5 STAR READ! The plot is filled with action, suspense, romance and tons of hot scenes.

I have been wanting to read Po’boy’s story since first reading him in book 1 and I wasn’t disappointed, this book and his story was so much more than I could have hoped for. I couldn’t put it down, the chemistry between Po’boy, Wrench and Crissy was off the charts and their story sees a lot of emotion and acceptance for their relationship. I loved everything about this book and I was that invested in the book that I felt everything the characters were feeling and I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait for the next installment.

This book quickly pulled me in and kept me anxiously turning the pages to see what would happen next. The author easily drew me so I felt a part of the story. The story is effortlessly told from the three main characters point of view. The characters are complex, and believable, I enjoyed getting to know them. My emotions were all over the place while reading this. I smiled, got angry, cried, and held my breath in anticipation. While this is the second book in the series, I think it can read as a stand-alone. I look forward to reading more from this author.

So strap yourself in for a a wild, emotional, & intense ride!"

It was a okay book. It wasn't my favorite MC genre book. Po'Boy doesn't take any shit from anyone. Chrissy is a badass chick. I love when there's a badass chick in books. In all honestly I won't be reading this book again.

We first met Po'Boy in book 1. He is Twisted's best friend. A guy to ride and die by his patch. But he has a secret, a secret that he is terrified that if it comes out life as he loves it, will be destroyed.
Wrench is Twisted's Penny Dane's Best friend. He is forever hanging around Po'Boy and Twisted. But he is having strange and complicated feelings about Po'Boy. How can that be? He loves pussy just as much as the next man. And he finds his new neighbour Crissy, is just so beautiful and he wants her, but how can he want her and Po'Boy?
Po'Boy is sitting in a bar, where he meets this beautiful brunette with killer curves and a rack to die for, all he wants to do is take her back to his place and love her, for the night. Only the night turns into a weekend, and a week of texting. This Brunette just happens to be Wrench's Chrissy. The only two people who can put Wrench's doubts to the side, is Chrissy and Po'Boy.
The three of them have the most beautiful love scenes that can only be summed up as EROTIC!
With Po'Boy's past coming back to haunt him and Wrench unable to handle everything that has happened, Can they put everything aside and be the people that each other needs and what Chrissy needs?
I won this book in a competition I entered, having struggled to read book 1 This is the route of Twisted Pain, I thought I would have the same problems with Treading the Traitor's Path:Out Bad. But honestly, the moment I opened and started reading I wanted to know Po'Boy's struggles, he became a person I was so interested in and I was amazed at how easy it was to read, and to get carried away in the story. This was one book that I will be rereading over and over again throughout the years.
MariaLisa is a magician with her words and characters, You wish you were their love interest and would do anything for the book not to end. Include staying up to god knows when finishing the book even though you know you have commitments that you need to be fresh for in a few hours.

This is not for the faint of heart. The love that poboy has to share is a strong one. He fights with a fierceNess that cannot be explained. Growing up in an abusive relatons hip, has not draged him down. His best friend has his back in everything. Once he finds Criss his life gets better. Then add Wrench and his life is complete. The three of them make a loving trio, the which makes for a good story.

This book starts with Ralph (Po'Boy) working to get information from a source. Later it becomes a fight because he is afraid of losing his MC life that he loves and the people that he loves because of his secrets. Those secrets will get him "shunned" from the club.
This story is all about acceptance of who you really are, where you really truly come from and the things that we sometimes have to do to get happiness.
Ralph is dealing with so much after his best friend finds happiness with the one woman right for him. He is wondering around trying to confront the nature of his feelings for Twisted and any other man for that matter.
The biggest surprise in this book for me was Crissy. But in the end that surprise did work. She was tough and sexy. She held her own when needed.I enjoyed that there was just enough kink in this story to make it good along with some incredibly steamy sex scenes. Enough to make it good. This was more then just your average MC.
