Runners at the start of the Foryd 5k

Five North Wales Road Runners Club athletes competed in the Foryd 5k fundraising race on Sunday in aid of Bala Town footballer Danny Gosset, who is fighting non-hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The special Caernarfon event attracted 165 runners over the fast and flat course which was won by Steve Forsyth from Prestatyn AC in just 16 mins 38 secs.

Forsyth celebrated a unique double after winning the Conwy Parkrun the previous day in 16.58.

The first four finishers all ran sub-18 minutes, and the first NWRRC runner home was Iwan Evans in 9th place and 2nd M40 cat in 18.47.

Iwan was just three seconds ahead of promising teenage colleague Troy Kettle, 2nd in the M12-20 cat, with Troy claiming a great new PB, and his first ever sub-19 time of 18.50.

Tony Price-Jones ran well again to finish 10th and was 1st M30 cat in 19.37, with Carla Green 2nd female and 1st F45 cat in 21.28, and Vicky Taylor 15th female in 27.03.

JON MOTORED ROUND AT SILVERSTONE HALF-MARATHON

Thankfully, the wheels didn’t come off for Jon Evans as he ran flat-out and motored at top speed around the famous Silverstone circuit last weekend during the half-marathon event.

Jon roared down the track to dip under the chequered flag in just 1 hr 41 mins 37 secs.

STEADY TROT FOR ‘WELSH WIZZARD’ AT DONCASTER RACES 10K

Llyr ApGeraint-Roberts enjoyed a steady trot around the Doncaster 10k last Sunday which finished at the popular racecourse, and was unusually combined with a free pie and a hot chocolate for all finishers.

Racing under the colours and title of the ‘Welsh Wizzard,’ Llyr soon galloped away and just missed out on a PB, but still celebrated his fastest time of the year in 36 mins 30 secs.

SILVER TEAM MEDAL FOR NWRRC TEAM

There were prestigious silver medals all round this week for NWRRC runners Martin Green, Jonathan Kettle and Rory Middleton, after finishing as the 2nd placed Welsh Athletics team in the recent Eryri Marathon.

SPLASHDOWN AT CROSS COUNTRY

Pat Finnie makes a splash

Pat Finnie was the only NWRRC representative at the regional cross country league meeting on Saturday afternoon at Dolgellau.

The M60 vet ran well over an extremely wet and muddy 6-mile course, which included three stream crossings to finish in 151st place in 53.16.

PARKRUN ROUND-UP

Welland Park, Market Harborough

Jon Evans went on his travels again last weekend and took part in the Market Harborough Parkrun finishing 34th overall and 3rd in his age category in a very good time of 22 mins 01 secs.

Penrhyn Castle

Fell runner Marc Roberts made a welcome return to the Penrhyn Castle Parkrun after a long break through injury, but admits his lack of fitness led to a relatively slow recovery time of 25.45 in 48th place.

Conwy

Carla Green had a very successful week

Mark Jessett was the first NWRRC athlete home at the Conwy Parkrun finishing in 6th place and 2nd SM30 cat in 18.56.

Richard Scamans and Steve Roberts had an interesting tussle with Richard just finishing ahead of his colleague in 15th place and 2nd MV45 cat in 20.43, with Steve winning his MV55 cat and recording 20.55. Tony Price-Jones also had a good run in 18th spot and was 2nd MV35 in 21.01.

Carla Green was 2nd female finisher and 1st VW45 cat in 22.22, and Daniel Owens, running with his regular guide Anthony Parvin, was 41st in 22.51 and won his SM25 cat.

Youngster Joe Culverhouse with his dad Stuart, narrowly missed out on another PB, but deservedly won his JM10 age category in 23.17.

Don Hale was 57th and 1st MV65 in 23.34, followed by Pat Finnie 86th in 25.21, and Rob Fryer in 87th place was just one second drift, but claimed 3rd MV65 cat. Joan Edwards also made a welcome return finishing as 78th female in 33.57.
