Dr. Mark Kleive

Dr. Mark Kleive's passion has led to a clear understanding of both the artistry and science of what it means to be a dentist.  Ideal tooth repair and dental care and optimal function.
Dr. Kleive believes people deserve better than to be treated like items on an assembly line and ensures each patient receives personal one-on-one attention. 
Dr. Kleive embraces his role as a comprehensive healthcare provider. His dental treatment philosophy reflects his desire to educate people to experience first-hand how the health of their mouth directly affects their general health.
Dr. Kleive is a 1997 graduate with distinction from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and a visiting faculty member at the Pankey Institute.He attends classes at Spear Education, and is a member of the NC Dental Society, the ADA, and the AACD. In November 2015, Dr. Kleive was inducted as a Fellow to the American College of Dentists.

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Today's Dental Practice

Dentists and team members strive for simple and effective strategies for diagnosis and treatment planning with their patients. However, current challenges include the patient's lack of awareness of their current health status and dependence on dental insurance. This course will review the esthetic, functional, structural and biological components of thorough hygiene and doctor exams with particular emphasis on clear patient communication and shared decision making - making "YES" a part of your patient response.

  • Master the components of the collaborative oral health examination and discovery process
  • Engage your team to help facilitate the patient's engagement during each and every visit to your practice.

Dr. Glenn Reside

Dr. Glenn J. Reside is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UNC School of Dentistry. He earned a BS degree in Chemistry at Illinois College, a MS degree in Biochemistry at the University of Illinois, and a DMD degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Immediately after college he entered military service and became a Special Forces Officer assigned to Vietnam. Upon return to the United States, he went to graduate school and dental school and then completed a General Practice Residency at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, NC, and an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. After retiring from the military he became the Section Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He is currently Director of Dental Student Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery education and the primary faculty for dental implantology in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency training program. 

Common Medical Emergencies and Local Anesthesia Update

What happens if a medical emergency occurs in your office? Are you and your staff fully prepared? This class will not only prepare you for an emergency but it will also update you on the latest developments in local anesthesia.

Dr. Ed Coryell

Dr. Ed Coryell grew up in Southern California but he has called the South home for more than 30 years. He attended Florida State University, earning an undergraduate degree in Biology. He completed his dental training at Emory University in Atlanta and a general practice residency in Jacksonville through the University of Florida.
Dr. Coryell is currently director of the dental residency program at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) in Asheville.
Dr. Coryell and his partner, Karen, have five children in their blended family. He enjoys training for and competing in triathlons as well as hiking, reading, and traveling.

Safe Opioid Prescribing - What Dental Healthcare Providers Need to Know

Western North Carolina has been hit particularly hard by the opioid epidemic, which includes heroin, other illicit drugs and prescription pain medications. In 2014, 17 of 23 western N.C. counties ranked among the top in the state in the rate of fatal overdoses– more than 20 deaths for every 100,000 residents. Statewide data also show that all but five counties in the region have higher-than-average rates of opioid pills prescribed per person, particularly in counties near the Tennessee border.
Learn about this epidemic in our region and steps to take to perform safe opioid prescribing and consider safer alternatives for treating dental pain. Together, let’s turn the tide on opioid overdosing and death in our region.

  • Cite the impact of opioid overdosing and death in WNC
  • Implement safer opioid prescribing protocols and access the CSRS as needed for dental patients in acute pain, and ways to manage patients with chronic pain on opioids who present with acute dental pain
  • Discover opioid alternatives to treat dental pain
