The 2nd Lung Cancer Health Equity Summit will be held, in person, in Atlanta, Nov 18-19, 2024 at the Philadephia College of Osteopathic Medicine - Georgia. The theme is "Black and Latino populations navigating lung cancer: stepping stones to equity". We often discuss the problems these communities face, but rarely do we bring stakeholders from all levels that present solutions that decrease disparities, decrease inequities, and/or improve outcomes for patients.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality in the US and worldwide. There are significant disparities across the care continuum that are, in part, due to structural and systemic barriers. There are discrepancies in screening, access, biomarker testing, clinical trials, and outcomes. There is also a lack of samples that reflect patient populations with the greatest disparities, lack of workforce diversity, and lack of patient-centered community engagement programs.
This event has been organized by a diverse group of stakeholders, which includes patients, caregivers, community-based organizations, health equity experts, public health leaders, physicians, nurses, and STEM leaders from across the country. All members are well-versed in health equity, patient advocacy, and community engagement. We aim to amplify the voice of the unseen and come away with takeaways that others can implement. There will be alternating panel discussions, speaker presentations, poster presentations, and networking opportunities.
