The Literacy Association of Tennessee subscribes to the belief that school communities have the responsibility to assist learners in valuing their diversity and in engaging active citizenship to remedy areas of inequity and privilege. Rather than having singular sessions focused on diversity, we ask that session proposals reflect LAT’s commitment (as defined by the LAT Diversity Committee’s mission below) to weave diversity throughout every aspect of the conference.
The LAT Diversity Committee’s mission is to promote inclusion, equity, and access for students, educators, communities, and families of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. In accordance with the International Literacy Association’s Framework for Literacy Education Reform (2016), we endorse policies and practices that recognize, embrace, and empower cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, gender, and additional diversities of children and families in the state of Tennessee.
