A Message from the president

As we turn the calendar page not only to a new month but also to a New Year, 2023, I like to reminisce about what our club has accomplished in the past year.

We were recognized (along with SI Chico) by the City of Chico with a Proclamation….Soroptimist celebrated its 100th anniversary, working to economically empower women and girls through access to education. Some of our members found they have the skill of ax throwing when we joined SI Chico at the Hatchet House. We were able to pay tuition for a Youth for Change Counselor to attend a training on Trafficking. Nine of our club members attended SNR Conference in Reno, where our own member Lisa Fitzgerald was installed as the next Governor of the Sierra Nevada Region. These are just a few of the highlights of 2022.

I am excited for what 2023 brings. We will of course continue to support women and girls through access to education. To do so we need to come together working on our fundraisers. Our fundraising committee is working hard planning so that we may continue with our mission.
Successful fundraising = education!

Thank you for volunteering, Linda

SIA MEMBER WIN-BACK CAMPAIGN
It was so wonderful seeing so many of you at the Fall District Meetings. It was also fantastic hearing that so many clubs are getting new members .... we are growing!
I mentioned that SIA would be sending out our first short-term, nimble and targeted membership campaign. And here it is ...
During November and December 2022, SIA is conducting a win-back campaign to recruit recently lapsed members who did not renew membership with their club's dues renewal period this year. Of course, this membership campaign includes an incentive to help foster healthy competition across our regions as you seek to win-back recently lapsed members. THE REGION THAT CONVERTS THE GREATEST PERCENTAGE OF THEIR PROSPECT LIST TO ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP BY DECEMBER 31, 2022 WILL WIN A $1000.00 CASH PRIZE! These funds may be used to support membership engagement, recruitment or retention efforts in your region.
To be considered a successful conversion to active membership in this campaign for credit toward this incentive, the following criteria must be met:
  • The member must have been on the prospect list of recently lapsed members provided to you by SIA.
  • The member must re-join a Soroptimist club in your region.
  • The member must be reinstated to the club's official roster through submission of the appropriate forms and payment of their reinstatement dues to SIA Headquarters.
  • Payment of the members reinstatement dues must be received by SIA Headquarters no later than December 31,2022.

During January 2023, SIA Headquarters will review reinstated member reports through December 31 to determine which region won back the greatest percentage of recently lapsed members.
Click here to download the Templates for Winning Back Lapsed Members.
I will be getting the prospect list from SIA on Friday (Nov 11) and will forward the information to club presidents over the weekend (Nov 12-13).
This is an exciting chance not only to regain members but also to win $1000.00 to help us with membership enhancement in our clubs and region.

Club Activities

December was a busy month for our club.
a few of us helped the Salvation Army with Bell Ringing on December 10th.

________________________________________________________

On December 8th we teamed up with the Chico Area Recreation and Park District  again to hold our annual Santa Project. CARD helped spread the word in 3 different elementary local schools and used social media to advertise. They also helped decorate the Field House and set up 2 Bounce Houses.
SI/ Bidwell Rancho set up tabled , stacked with toys, coloring supplies, books and warm hats. Local dentists supplied toothpaste and brushes. There were several craft tables set up and it was a wonderful experience talking to the children and families. Everyone got cookies and juice. Definitely one of our favorite Holiday projects. Here are a few pictures:

___________________________________________________

Our local's women holiday project's committee turned into Santa's helpers and delivered gifts for residents at the House of Hope, the Myrtle House, the Sage House and the Sequoia House. All houses are affiliated with the The Jesus Center.

___________________________________________________________

To finish out the holiday season, we had our annual SI/Bidwell Rancho Christmas party. The special event committee did a wonderful job organizing the event which was held at one of our member's house. Thank you Celeste Garcia for opening your home to all of us. And thank you to our newer Member Coco Briggs for catering the event. The food was delicious!

Friendship link in Germany

SI/Bidwell Rancho has a friendship link in Muenster, Germany - SI/Muenster. This year, immediate past president, Babette Maiss was able to visit the club in person for the first time. It was wonderful seeing them all again and catching up!
Every year we get a wonderful Christmas letter with pictures. The letters are special, because they give everyone a chance to see what the club has been up to.
We wish a happy New Year to our Soroptimist sisters in Muenster!
