Spring Greetings!

The clocks have changed, the evenings are lighter and the scent of blossom is in the air. This is always a good time for me, a summer-born bod who finds the relentlessness of winter something of a drag.

Over recent weeks, there have been signs of new growth popping up all around, and to our great pleasure this weekend, we found in our garden not only a slow worm basking in the sunshine, but also a pond full of frog spawn! My daughter Ali has been developing the pond over the past couple of years, and this is our first 'homegrown' batch. We're over the moon!

In the face of the year we've all had, small pleasures have taken on greater significance, haven't they? Certainly, here, we seem to be taking more reward from the creative things in life - the making, baking, growing, sewing, walking, talking ... and now, great joy, we look forward to some lifting of restrictions, and more time spent with family and friends. Happy days.

Here's the latest from me ...

This month I've been watching all sorts, but It's A Sin (Ch 4) really stood out for me. Incredibly moving, at times funny, and painfully illuminating - I can't recommend it highly enough. Like a large proportion of the UK, I've also been eagerly anticipating the new series of Line of Duty (BBC), and two episodes in, I'm already hooked.
My latest BBC Sounds listen is Paradise, a chilling true crime investigation into a missing backpacker cold case - and like many of these podcasts, it's addictive! I've also just started listening to the audiobook of The Mermaid of Black Conch by Monique Roffey (Costa Book of the Year). Beautifully lyrical, and refreshingly original.

Time Out!

After many months of writing through lockdown, I've had some time off, to allow my latest story to 'marinate' between drafts. By way of a reset, I've had my sewing machine out, making origami bags for friends' new babies and face coverings for family. I'm now working on some Arts & Crafts inspired patchwork curtains, made from repurposed V&A duvet covers and pillowcases. Sewing is a meditation for me, so I'm hoping that soon I'll feel refreshed and ready to return to my desk.
Finally, I'll leave with with these 'Before' and 'After' pics of Charlie the Border Terrier - who turns 14 this month. It's good to see someone who's had a decent haircut in recent times ... I'm hoping my own haircut transformation will be as impressive!

Wishing you happy times ahead with your loved-ones this spring -
