Help my Son in his fight! —Heart Surgery

Donation protected
Hello my name is Tammy. I’m Nate’s mother and this is Nathan, my 33-year-old Son, his wife Sadie, and their two boys Bentley 7 & Jagg who is 4 (as seen below).  In the past few years, my Son has been fighting a heart condition called Constrictive Pericarditis.  It’s where the tissue surrounding the heart abnormally tightens, causing the heart to slow down, restrict blood flow, and prevent it from pumping like a normal heart should. This condition is also known to cause heart attacks (of which Nate has suffered one so far).

My Son has been on 3 different medications the past 2 years that doctors hoped would help.  Two helped for pain, but the third did not help the condition as they hoped and they had to start radiation.  He was required to see the Doctor every week to get an injection and check progress. The weekly shot was to help prevent his heart from stopping and also for the Pericardium that’s causing him pain and shortness of breath.

Nate went into the hospital for a heart catheterization. The results were not good. He has had a CT scan, MRI, and EKG’s.   The Doctor put him on a diet because he was gaining weight with this condition slowing him down.

My Son has been trying with the Doctors to do everything they can without surgery. They put Nate through 2 rounds of radiation at 6 weeks each.  Nate took his last treatment of the last round December 10, 2020. The Doctors advised no more radiation because Nate’s body couldn’t handle anymore.

Nate had a second heart catheterization after radiation treatments and this time the news was devastating - not what anyone expected. The Doctors told my son that the radiation did not provide enough improvement to his heart condition and now the doctors diagnosis is terminally ill for Nathan. His only option is heart surgery.

The surgery, available at a hospital in New York, would help Nate live longer, another 10+ years or more.  The sooner he can have surgery the better because he is young and will recover quicker and more fully.

There is a special Doctor in New York that performs this surgery and Nate will be there in the hospital for 45 days. Then will come back to the Heart Rehab Center for 60 days in Oklahoma City.

After that, when he goes home, he still must take it easy and see the doctor every few weeks. So, it will be a long road.

My Son told me, “I want to be around for my boys and my wife”.   If Nate does not have surgery, the young boys will lose their Dad and Nate won’t be around to see his boys grow up. Nate’s brother, Zachary, my second Son, is devastated and told me if he lost his brother he doesn’t know what he’ll do.

The Doctors want to do surgery soon. Within the next few months, they have to arrange everything.  Health Insurance will not cover all of this.

Nate will be off work 110-125 days. Without vacation time or sick time, this is a significant loss of income.  Sadie’s income will not cover feeding their boys and paying all their regular bills (electricity, gas, water, transportation, Medical Co-pays/Premiums, living expenses, food, auto, insurance, etc.);

In addition to medical expenses, we are hoping for enough in donations to cover the following:

§  For Sadie and me to stay near, and be with, Nate for the 45 days required for surgery etc. in New York.

§  To help with expenses for someone to watch the young boys at home full-time, while “Mom & Dad” are in New York for surgery.

§  Help with flights to New York.

§  Help with any medical bills left to cover.

§  Help cover bills and living expenses for Nate’s family while he is away from work for up to 125 days.

The road to recovery will be long - anything you donate goes directly to Nate helping him get the surgery he so needs to extend his life.

All donations will go into a bank account setup for Nathan.

If you will please Pray for my Son, it is at a crossroads he’s never dealt with before. He is a fine Christian young man who loves God and has faith this will work out with God’s help.   Nate has already had lots of comfort prayers from family and friends.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

This is not the news any mother wants to hear but, I did. It breaks my heart. I’ve cried, trying to understand why. I wish I could take his place and I would.  I love Nathan with all my heart ❤️  I want to thank you for reading about my Son Nathan, as a mother’s love is unconditional for my Son and I want what’s best.

Thank you for visiting my page and reading about my Son.

God Bless,
Tammy Armstrong
