Helena "Bubbe" Lehrer née Formal passed away Saturday morning after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  She was surrounded by her family.

A child of Holocaust survivors, Max Formalski and Regina Steinfeld, she emigrated with her parents from Germany. Helena attended Classical High School in Providence, Rhode Island, graduated from Brown University, and obtained a graduate degree from American University.

Together with her husband, Norman Z’’L, they raised two children, Michael and Joshua. Later in life, nothing brought the two of them more joy than sharing their home with the entire family, grandchildren and granddogs included!

Helena spent her entire professional career educating Jewish children at Akiba Hebrew Academy, now Jack M Barrack Hebrew Academy.

Over her 30 years at JBHA, Bubbe filled many roles. She began as a substitute, then taught chemistry and biology before becoming an administrator, where she held the positions of department head, vice principal and principal.  Her passion was connecting with each of the students, their parents, and the extended JBHA community.  She was proud of her students, whom she helped shape into a generation of Jewish leaders.

Bubbe is survived by her two children, Michael (Jenifer) and Joshua (Laura); three grandchildren, Benjamin, Talia, and Raina; and brother Paul (Debbie).

The community is invited to her graveside service which will be held Monday at noon at Emeth Shalom cemetery in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. A brief shiva will follow at the Lehrer's home at 101 N. Fredericksburg Avenue, Ventnor, NJ.

Shiva will also be observed on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 pm at Jack M Barrack Hebrew Academy, Bryn Mawr, PA.

Donations may be made to the Helena Lehrer Scholarship Fund at the Jack M Barrack Hebrew Academy at https://www.jbha.org/support-barrack/make-a-gift.

May her memory be a blessing.
