Family life has drastically changed in the recent years due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The pandemic has greatly disrupted the daily lives of individuals, families, and households, and this will most likely continue in the years to come. Among many fields of study, home economics has the greatest capacity to help families adapt to this new normal. How does home economics help families deal with the sudden changes in managing their material and human resources? How does home economics teach individuals and families cope with the new resource demands of the pandemic? How does home economics help families and households acquire and sustain their various needs during this health emergency?

The conference theme, “Redesigning the Material and Relational Aspects of Life through Home Economics” focuses on how the various subdisciplines of home economics contribute to enabling families and households meet their changing material and relational needs during the current disaster. It considers how home economics helps families cope with the current situation, while preparing for more changes and challenges ahead. The HE Centennial National Conference will examine how home economics has enabled families in the past to meet their changing needs, and foresee how the discipline, through its different areas, can continue to uplift the well-being of families and households despite the harsh conditions of the present times.

• The role of home economics in recovering from the Covid 19 Pandemic

Objectives:

The objectives of the conference are to:

• ​​Examine the contributions of the College of Home Economics in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (Zero Hunger, Quality Education, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and No Poverty);

• Explore how the seven subdisciplines of Home Economics can utilize their competitive advantages (as part of the discipline) in rebuilding families and communities, post-pandemic; and

• Share studies on the subdisciplines of home economics, and extension activities related to redesigning the material and relational aspects of life through home economics.
