Georgetown Youth Justice Action Month - Creating Your Own Lane: Paths to A Career in Youth Justice and Defense Expo
Start: Thursday, October 10, 2019• 5:00 PM
End: Thursday, October 10, 2019• 7:00 PM
YJAM was inspired by the advocacy of Tracy McClard, the mother of an incarcerated child who raised public awareness about the injustice of the criminal and juvenile legal systems. Led by the Campaign for Youth Justice, what began in 2008 as a 5K race in Missouri has evolved into a nationally-recognized month dedicated to shedding light on an issue that impacts nearly 200,000 youth each year.
On October 7th, 8th, and 10th, the Georgetown Juvenile Justice Initiative will host 3 evenings of events, themed Act, Inspire, Lead: Transforming Youth Justice as part of our Youth Justice Action month celebration. These events will inspire advocacy and activism in youth justice, amplify the voices of youth activists, and educate attendees on the work of local organizations to protect the rights of youth.
If you think you might want to pursue a career that involves youth advocacy or juvenile or criminal defense, this event is for you! Youth justice and defender organizations will be stationed at tables to speak with you about their work and ways to get involved. The expo will be followed by a 45-minute careers panel discussion and Q&A about youth justice policy, direct services, and community organizing.
Refreshments will be provided. Join us!
