We believe that access to nature and the countryside should be a right and not a privilege enjoyed by a minority. Help us ensure equal access to the countryside so that all young people can experience the benefits of nature and the environment, no matter where they are from or what their background.

    Situation

Children are spending less time outdoors, and there is a 20% difference in those spending time outside every week between the UK’s most affluent and deprived areas (Nature England, 2019). Only 6-7% of children are going on school visits to the countryside, and this decreases for minority ethnic groups and those living in poverty. Combined with 1 in 6 children and young people having a diagnosable mental health condition (NHS, 2020), the nurturing power of nature has never been so needed.

    Solution

Each year we welcome three thousand children to our working farms, and away from barriers that increase the deprivation in which they navigate their childhood, to spend a life-enhancing day or whole week with us. Our farms offer a sanctuary where children and young people experience personal growth and develop transferrable life skills through food, farming and outdoor learning activities that connect them with each other and the natural world.
