Daughters Of Farmworkers

The Farmworker Caravan is dedicated to supporting the Daughters of Farmworkers Girl Scout programs that has seasonal troops at the migrant camps. People can either purchase cookies for themselves or choose 'Cookie Share' to donate them to the farmworker families which will be distributed through our partner organizations for Easter 2021. When you PURCHASE COOKIES HERE, Troop 60407 will donate 100% of their cookie proceeds from the donated packages directly to the Daughters of Farmworkers program.

ABOUT DAUGHTERS OF FARMWORKERS PROGRAM

The Girl Scouts' Daughters of Farmworkers (DOF) program has been operating in Gilroy and Half Moon Bay areas for about 30 years and has never charged participants. We are lucky to have amazing funders who support the program and the paid staff that facilitate it every summer to about 80-100 girls living in farm working/agricultural communities.

FAQS

How long will the cookies be sold?

Girl Scout Cookie season is now - March 31, 2021.

Aren't the girls suppose to sell their own cookies?

Yes, under normal circumstances a troop would sell their own cookies.  However, the Daughters of Farmworkers Girl Scout program is a seasonal program for children of migrant farmworkers and is not a year-around troop. Migrant farmworkers work temporarily or seasonally in farm fields, orchards, canneries, plant nurseries, fish/seafood and packing plants. Unfortunately, they usually do not arrive to the camps until the Spring when cookie sales have ended.

Where will the donated cookies go?

We hope to receive 5,500 donated cookies to distribute to our partner organizations who do food distributions to the farmworker families. The cookies and blessing bags will be distributed during Easter.

Why do girls scouts sell cookies?

When you buy Girl Scout Cookies, you power amazing experiences and life-changing opportunities for girls' year-round—from awesome trips to community projects to outdoor adventures. The more cookies you buy, the more you help Girl Scouts build essential skills as they begin to think like entrepreneurs and learn to take the lead, both now and in the future. Girls gain these skills from working with others, setting goals, and connecting with you, the cookie customer! It's about the experience of running her very own cookie business, gaining five essential skills (goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics) as she learns to think like an entrepreneur.

Where does the money go?

The net proceeds from Girl Scout Cookie sales stay local with the originating council and troop to fund activities for girls year-round as well as impactful girl-led community projects. Each council determines its own revenue structure depending on how much it costs the council to buy cookies, the local retail price to sell cookies, and the amount of revenue shared with participating troops.

Cookie program revenue is a critical source of funding for Girl Scout councils to deliver essential programming to troops and is often what makes it possible to reach girls in underserved areas and maintain camps and properties.
