About Dr. Derrick Mears

The 2022-2023 academic year marks the beginning of my 32nd year as an educator and 18th year as a practitioner in higher education. As a former K-12 educator and now teacher educator I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of different educational settings. The wealth of knowledge gained from my twelve years of public-school teaching in addition to experiences gained as a higher education professional have shaped my philosophy of practice.

My mission as an educator has always been to maintain through continuing education and example, the knowledge and application of content, concepts, and innovative instructional strategies necessary to guide students to become effective leaders and practitioners in K-12 schools, higher education or business and industry.

To effectively do this, I strive to remain on the cutting edge of my field and maintain a

connection to public schools. Through collaboration and on-going research, at State, Regional, National, and international levels I strive to prepare high quality teachers and instructional leaders for the ever-changing fields of education.
