Intervention Overview

F.Y.I: First-Year Insured is an intervention designed to increase literacy in health insurance among first-year college students. Several studies show that knowledge of health insurance among the beneficiary is low (Chandak et al., 2012). The lack of knowledge could lead to struggles down the road regarding overall health and wellness. "This lack of health insurance knowledge may stem from not feeling that they "need" this information, as many are often on their parents' health insurance plans throughout college and beyond" (Mackert et al., 2017). This program is a 60-minute program that will be facilitated by Western Illinois Universities Insurance Coordinator, the Health Education Graduate Assistant, and healthcare professional. F.Y.I will have a presentation, small group activities, and large group discussions.
