What is Jeffco Student Voice?
Jeffco Student Voice (JSV) is a student-led district-wide initiative that empowers high school students from historically marginalized communities (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, emerging multilingual people, etc.) and allies to be the voices for positive change in their communities. The goal is to create a sustainable foundation for equity, inclusion, and belonging in our schools through compassionate leadership.
Jeffco Student Voice provides students a forum for two-way communication between students and district leaders to create positive change in Jeffco Public Schools. It helps students develop leadership skills and capacity to advocate for advancement in equity, inclusion, belonging, civic engagement, community improvement, and the Jeffco Generations skills. This group also seeks to create spaces for students to connect with other students in the district and in their own schools. Through Student Voice, student representatives are provided learning opportunities that further their development as culturally responsive student leaders in hopes of assuming leadership roles at their schools and in their community.
The What:
Student Voice representatives from Jeffco high schools will come together to:
Engage and collaborate in learning with other Jeffco high school students about social change advocacy, cultural proficiency, equitable practices, and establishing a culture of dignity and belonging in schools and across our district.
Meet and talk with the Superintendent to share celebrations, wonderings and/or concerns from fellow students, their school, and community.
Participate in a school-based service learning project(s) that further develops their leadership and advocacy skills from an equity and inclusion lens.
Have fun and meet other students and staff from all over the district.
