Did you watch the so-called debate between DeSantis and Newsom? A complete disaster for both politicians in my opinion. I do not dislike DeSantis, and I hold out hope that he can have a positive impact somehow in the upcoming election. Maybe there will be some kind of new role for him on the ever-shifting election game board, but he is certainly unfit to be Trump’s running mate. He needs a big injection of polish.
Newsom, who is the key villain in this edition of Boomer Awakening, struck me as a nicely manicured and expensively dressed stooge for whoever is running the show on the Left these days, all polish and no substance worth listening to. It is Newsom who has been lending his autograph to the outlandish docket of tax hikes for Californians that could achieve the destruction of California’s middle class.
My daily observations here in San Diego County are of increasing civil dissolution. It feels and looks like a shroud of dissipation has begun to encompass our lives and landscape, even in my beloved hometown in North County. Though we are not in Los Angeles or San Francisco, we can see the changes here if we are observant.
The young might claim that I have turned into a grumpy old man, and there could be some truth in that. Yet the 40,000 foot view across the 1950’s to the present points to clear, specific developments that underly my alarm, but let’s get back to the clear and present danger.
Governor Newsom, in complicity with our California legislators, has advanced costly tax hikes to the 2024 ballot in California. I have heard many estimates of how much money these tax hikes could cost us. It depends, of course, on the individual household, but in total becomes a massacre of wealth and way of life for Californians who own homes and hold a certain level of debt, especially if that debt is exacerbated by a job loss or other income source loss. Retirees could be severely impacted when savings dissipate faster than what has already been dissipated by inflation. You may have read about the gutting of the middle class elsewhere, but here it is on our California doorstep.
Proposition 13 has long shielded Californians from tax exploitation:

Over time, politicians have exploited loopholes to enact numerous tax hikes that have resulted in Californians suffering the highest cost-of-living in the country. Prop 13 is under attack by Sacramento politicians once again:

Fortunately, there is a CA Taxpayer Protection Initiative on the ballot in 2024. Over 1.4 million signatures were collected to force a vote on this Initiative. The ballot measure will:
Restore the ⅔ Vote required to increase taxes on the people of California, which means the legislature cannot steal our hard-earned money.
Repeal recent state tax hikes enacted after January 2022.
Reduce utility rates.
Require Honest Ballot Titles.
If you have voted in recent years, you probably ran across ballot titles and initiative summaries that were highly confusing or conflicted with the title. This was done on purpose to confuse us into voting for initiatives that raised taxes or otherwise resulted in increased difficulties for citizens.
Here are a handful of additional Newsom tax hikes that will be on the California ballot in November 2024:
1. Mileage Tax. Although we already pay the highest gas taxes in the country, a new tax of six cents per mile you drive will be added to your California bill.
2. Utility Tax. A new utility tax based on income—with higher rates if you “earn too much.” (You will share your tax return with utility companies).
3. Savings Tax. A new tax on your investments in addition to your income.
4. Gross Receipts Tax. Businesses will be taxed on their transactions, not just their income—even if your business loses money.
5. Income/Payroll Taxes. On top of countless proposed income tax hikes, a new payroll tax for government-run healthcare.
6. Local Sales and Property Taxes. Again, we will have to fight off dozens of sales and property tax hikes.
7. Exit Tax. If you can’t afford all these absurd, debilitating taxes and decide to get the heck out of our beloved state, the Sacramento cabal wants to impose an “exit tax” on you.
I have been participating in a mass mail-out to Californians, informing them of the tax issues raised above. It seems like an easy and potentially effective way to participate in the California democratic process. I encourage you to pitch in.

Most of the information I have passed on in this post came from the Reform California organization headed up by Carl DeMaio. Carl has been involved in San Diego and California politics for a number of years now. He has hosted a conservative oriented radio show that broadcasts on AM 600.
However, Carl has decided to run for office in the California Assembly, District 75 and will have to give up his radio show. Based on my experiences listening to Carl speak on the radio and in person, I will recommend him for the office at this time.
As we get closer to the 2024 elections I will endeavor to keep you posted on the issues raised in this post.
Buckle Up!
Tell me about it! I'm from California! Nice piece, Thanks for posting it!
