STEMarts Bootcamp: Exploring the Universe Through Particle Physics
Bootcamp #2: Exploring the Universe Through Particle Physics

Theme: Unveiling the Building Blocks of the Universe

Get ready to dive into the mysteries of the universe! In this Bootcamp, we’ll explore the fascinating world of particle physics, where the tiniest components of matter interact to shape everything around us. Through hands-on activities and live insights from CERN, you’ll discover how cutting-edge research connects to our everyday lives. Plus, unleash your creativity by transforming scientific data into sci-art that brings these invisible interactions to life.

Join us for an unforgettable day of discovery, learning, and creativity as we unlock the secrets of the cosmos!

January 25, 2025
9am-5pm
Location: UNM Taos HIVE, 1146 Gusdorf Rd, Taos, NM

Description: Dive into the fundamentals of particle physics and discover how the tiniest components of matter shape our universe. Learn about groundbreaking research and how it connects to real-world applications.

  • Instructors:

    • Shane Wood: Explore particle physics through hands-on experiments that make complex concepts easy to understand.
    • Dr. Steven Goldfarb: Beaming in live from 100 meters underground in the ATLAS Detector at CERN. ATLAS is one of three enormous high-precision particle physics detectors located at the points where proton beams collide in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Steve will walk you around and all over the detector, describing the experiment, its successful discoveries and what more it hopes to achieve in the coming years.
  • Creative Component:

    • Work with Tagtool and Ian Harrison to transform particle data into stunning sci-art creations.
