BLAQOUT! Conference 2022 Registration Form
The UC Berkeley Gender Equity Resource Center and African American Student Development are hosting the annual BLAQOUT! Conference on October 14th-16th, 2022, with free registration for all!

This three-day conference has a rich history in the UC system as a time for affinity, solidarity, and celebration of African Diaspora and 2STLGBQ+ (Two-Spirit, Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer+) communities! While we recognize that a single acronym cannot capture the entire expanse of our communities’ experiences with sexuality and gender, we have chosen 2STLGBQ+ to name and center Two-Spirit and Transgender identities to honor/uplift the experiences of Afro-Indigenous, Transgender, and Nonbinary people within the Black community.

BLAQOUT! is a structured conference featuring workshops from undergraduate and graduate scholars, staff, community members, and activists who are part of the BlaQueer Diaspora. It is also designed to create space for networking, empowerment, and critical community building among Black QTs (Queer and Trans people) across the state of California.

The theme of this year’s conference will be BlaQ in Action, which celebrates the intrinsic power of the many manifestations of our BlaQness, encompassing all intersections of our complex and diverse identities. Our very existence as Black QTs is a paradox that challenges the systems designed to oppress us, thus the theme “BlaQ in Action” spotlights the moment when one is able to remove the self-limiting mask worn to protect their identity from society, regain consciousness of their full capabilities, and mobilize these powers to change the world. This year, our theme embraces and passes on this legacy of resistance, and thus our workshops will center around Love (i.e. relationships, community), Health (i.e. holistic wellness, substance abuse awareness), Wealth (i.e. financial literacy, black history), and Stealth (i.e. self-defense, trans sovereignty, gender roundtables).

This conference is designed for Black 2STLGBQ+ persons to share knowledge and experiences with one another about our particular lives. Those who do not share these lived experiences will not be equipped to engage in discussions and other activities that are unique to this intersection of identities. We will not be providing workshops to learn about allyship or knowledge of our community’s experiences. We encourage our non-Black and non-2STLGBQ+ allies to attend other conferences or contact the organizers to learn how they can support this important space being held for the Black 2STLGBQ+ community.

The UC Berkeley BLAQOUT! committee is working hard to uphold the BLAQOUT! legacy of #BlaQexcellence. As of right now, here are things to know:
