1st Limestone 238 Bookkeeper Leperfish does Make Announcement that Zapdos must to do Overseer, as Sankis Instructs. Zapdos is militia dwarf in Stormy Lancers under Bad Munki. He is husband of Tosca Cake and Parent to Black Griffon and Dallbun. In midspring of 238, Zapdos settled in Kilrudzat. In late summer of 238, Zapdos was locked in Spider Cavern by OhCrap Mountainmist during Battle of Bad Big Lizards and Ambush of Goblins. I do not Know Zapdos Well. But for Beloved Husband, I do not Know any dwarfs Well. It is nearly one year since I settled in Kilrudzat. At first Dwarfs did do Try to Make me feel Welcome. I did not speak to dwarfs unless needed. I did Blindly try to do Duty. I did stand and yell to Heed. I think that Many Dwarfs just did what they would Do anyway. I do not do Blame them. I was a Bad Overseer. I was a Bad Dwarf. Beloved Husband says that I do Too Hard on Self. He says that overthefalls does not do Blame me for Denty Head i poo poo trains and Ventnor. He says overthefalls does do Blame Will of Ugath. I do not nod. I do not have Wisdom. I made other Dwarfs dead too. I do not Know if Zapdos has glossy ☼Briefing Notes☼. They did not Help me. They did not Inform of Murk or Bad Weasel or Ogress or Lumpy Water Ice or Bad Spider or Troglodytes or Bad Cow or Bad Big Lizards or Kobolds or Goblins. They did not Inform much at all. I do not know if Zapdos will be a Good Overseer. I do not know if Dwarfs will do Revenge. I will do patrol. I will wait to See.

The extent of my guitar playing is being able to barely hack through some folk songs well enough to pass general music methods. Hmm. Dunno if it's the chanting or what, but I'm getting kind of a Shadow of the Colossus vibe from it. Which is good! Congratulations Zapdos, and good luck!

1st Limestone, 238 Woken up by Leperfish early this morning. Seemed excited about something. Apparently I was "selected" to be this place's next overseer. Fantastic. Well, might as well make the best of this. About time someone with experience was in charge around here. 2nd Limestone, 238 As my first act as overseer I conduced a survey of the entire fortress. Results follow: Military: 17 soldiers with combat skill, only 9 active at any time Insufficient equipment Meager barracks with little space for training and equipment storage Condition: Poor Defense: No way to block access to main entrance Above ground fortifications absent Condition: Poor Food and Agriculture: Farms small but sufficient at this time Food supply at adaquite levels Alcohol dangerously low Condition: Adequate Living Space: Rooms available but provide no privacy or storage Dining hall large but mostly unfurnished Condition: Poor Workshops: All kinds available but additional mason's, carpenter's and mechanic's workshops recommended Forges operational but ineffecient Condition: Adequate Additional Notes: Reservoir project is a failure. Measures will have to be taken to ensure a safe water source away from murk. We have work to do. Zapdos fucked around with this message at 17:26 on Jul 25, 2012 |

I like that this LP suggests that, because of their long lifespans, Dwarfs mature at a slower rate than humans, leaving Leperfish and OhCrap, old enough to be mentally mature by human standards, without a grasp of complex language, while leaving Zapdos, ancient, with a grasp of language that is no more advanced than average-adult-human.

Look at it this way: You can't sink any British ship on dry land. Speaking of sinking things on dry land, when is the next Combat Mission LP? I'm eager to see if they fixed the pathing so my halftrack doesn't get stuck in a ditch and die with the Battle of the Bulge expansion. Unless I managed to miss it completely like your GSB thread

2nd Limestone, 238 Here comes the new Overseer, yelling to the train of dwarves following him, who furiously scribble notes as he rants and raves, waving at various key points of the fortress. It sounds like he has big changes planned, and while I'm unsure of his temperament I can agree that the security here is sertinlee (I muſt improve my spellling, lest my instructions to the other cheesemakers become muddled) not going to keep The Cheese safe from invaders. I just hope he doesn't disturb the cheeses while they are in the busy and delicate stage I like to call Slurrying. I won't accept any cheese that doesn't slosh when shaken!

Almost as good, but really easy to lose a dwarf to, is connecting the passage to the resivoir to the underside of the river. Then, gravity will take care of the rest. Just make sure you have your floodgates up ahead of time.

2nd Limestone, 238 Well then: My father. It's clear that the warrior blood comes from my mother, and my dear Fiddler Three is the sole inheritor of those traits. I inherited my fathers weakness in body, but weakness of body is strength of mind. Considering Star Guarded lacks the strength for soldier-work as well, I think we can count our daughter as quite the miracle. To be fair, my sister can lift minecarts if she gets angry enough, but she'll tire quickly. When people ask me why I'm dour and pessimistic, I point to my father. Dourness is underrated in any case, blissful fools get nothing done. Our blood is strong, and when my father steps down, I trust he will have a much improved fortress for when I take up the mantle of Overseer. I might have said that we should trust the young, but the previous overseer was a child. We shouldn't overdo it. The end might come tomorrow, or a hundred years from now. As long as my daughter can hold a weapon, my mother can draw the bow and my father still has Proficiency with the hammer and shield, we'll hold out for a moment more. We'll all find an end, one way or the other.

3rd Limestone, 238 First things first. Until fortifications can be built our military is our only line of defense. I looked over the personel list and have found a suitable source for new recruits. Apeynap, Geri Khan and MinorRed have been assigned to The Stormy Lancers. SourceElement, DrMelon, Hutter and my son Black Griffon have been assigned to The One-Way Outs. Tilier Kiwi, Log082, Magrov, NineOfEight, TremendousMajestic and my daughter-in-law Star Guarded have been assigned to The Creations of Luck. In addition I have assigned Ajaxify and Anela Cistine to assist Gnu Sheriff in Town in keeping order in the fortress. I will have to double-check to make sure there are enough crossbows, bolts and quivers for The One-Way Outs as well as enough weapons for the rest of the military. Bad Munki asked for a replacement axe. I told him that being militia commander he could do that himself, but he insisted I do it. He clutched a copper battle axe very close to his body while saying this. Strange. Woytaz has informed me that we have run out of plant cloth, and he can't continue making clothing until more is found. I will have to find or make more. Kelli and Kaboom both kept shouting from the tombs that they are unable to find the remains of i poo poo trains or Ventnor. I suggest looking in the caverns where they died. Humph's mutiliated body has been found outside. It seems that he did not survive the goblin ambush. 4th Limestone, 238 Dwarves have been in and out hauling objects from outdoors. Apparently one of the human merchant's horses was killed and dropped the goods it carried. Free goods are good goods I guess. I just wish they'd hurry up. 9th Limestone, 238 Dwarves still hauling from the dead merchant horse. They say the pile's nearly gone, so hopefully soon we can move on. We have barely over 100 units of alcohol left, but no one is using the still to brew more. It seems HiHo ChiRho is busy hauling dead horse goods while John Dough is further depleting the stock. Measures may have to be taken. 14th Limestone, 238 I have forbidden the rest of the pile except the anvil. The items will have to be gathered later. 17th Limestone, 238 Zaodai has been very unhappy since the death of his father, Ventnor. He started yelling and shouting and ran down the hallway to the dormitories. 19th Limestone, 238 Zaodai was heard attacking Asehujiko in her room while she slept. I have not received news of her injuries but I am sure they are superficial. 20th Limestone, 238 Asehujiko has not been seen since Zaodai's tantrum. Zaodai has calmed down but is still miserable. However when he is asked about his assault on Asehujiko he just smiles grimly. I am worried about Asehujiko. 22nd Limestone, 238 Reports of troglodytes in the caverns. I sent the Creations of Luck to investigate. Ven-Garr has not returned from the caverns. Hopefully he is uninjured. 23rd Limestone, 238 Kaishai reports that there is no lye available for soap production. Must fix before OhCrap notices. 24th Limestone, 238 Hostile Rabbi reports no ash for lye. Must make ash then lye before OhCrap notices. Ven-Garr's corpse was found by The Creations of Luck. I order the death of the troglodytes. 25th Limestone, 238 Troll encountered in the caverns after troglodytes dealt with. Idles, Idles' child Male Man and OhCrap's war dog Ezum engage. It goes well but Male Man is injured. Troll is dealt with. Asehujiko still missing. It has been a week, where has she gone? Asehujiko's corpse found. In her bed. Right where she was attacked. Why was she ignored for a week? There are no witnesses to the murder but I have a good suspicion as to who did it. 28th Limestone, 238 Bad Munki is still carrying his old axe. I remind him of our conversation earlier this month but he ignores me. End of the month. Hopefully the next is less bloody. Zapdos fucked around with this message at 23:21 on Jul 25, 2012 |
