I always play with aquifers on, and I actually think I'll turn them back on for the real Lepermod. But I was having trouble finding an embark site with all the attributes I wanted and without an aquifer, and after wasting a lot of time generating worlds and exploring sites and poo poo, I decided it was just better to shut them off.

To me the ideal site spans three or four biomes, one of which has an aquifer.

Yeah, and it'll probably wind up being a fairly limited set that I remove them from, just because I prefer Lepermod to be fairly conservative. But I won't have time to hack DF till after I get home from vacation on Sunday night, so probably next week some time.

These are badass! I think a more normal arrangement is for the ancestors to be at the top of the page and then everything descending down to the youngest (with children below)... so it's more of a tree shape. But either way, it's pretty cool.

Yeah, dwarves in the embark are all made from scratch, which is a shame. I think many dwarf immigrants also have no recorded parantage, even though they're "historical" dwarves: only a small fraction of all the dwarves in the world have an entry in Legends due to being/doing something remarkable and/or having a direct relative who did something remarkable.

Which is also kind of a good thing. It takes long enough to generate a world as it is: imagine if it had to track the full lives of 100,000 dwarves on a yearly basis, plus all of their children, for two or three centuries... plus all the humans, elves, goblins, and kobolds...

Thanks for posting the legends stuff. I was curious about it, but reading through legends tends to be a huge slog with the occasional awesome moment thrown in.

Thanks also to Leperflesh for making and posting the Lepermod. It sounds perfect - not much added and a bunch of stuff fixed/streamlined. Once summer school is out and I have time to mess around with DF again I'll definitely be trying it out.

Just get rid of the save folder. I'm working on the ASCII conversion, but if you install Phoebus first, you should be able to drop in the raws without issue.

I don't, and won't till I get home. But as scamtank says: you can extract just the raw files which I modified (see my readme for a complete list) and paste them over the exiting raws in a .11 Phoebus install and it should work. You might also want the init files if you want the same UI setup, seasonal saves, etc., and the custom worldgen settings (Leperflesh medium world).

You must do this after installing phoebus, though. If you start with vanilla DF, paste in my mod, and then apply phoebus, phoebus will overwrite several of the modded files.

I have not tested this on the lazy noob pack. I don't know if that version does anything to the raws which my files would overwrite.

And, again, I'm really not done with the mod and will probably have hotfixes to apply, so, you'll have to stay on top of that if you want to keep up with the changes.

Hokay, I have something small to show for what I've done so far, and I can't leave you guys hanging... and yes, no doubt, especially considering THE MASTER PLAN

What's the MASTER PLAN? Read on!

From the Overseer Diary of JimmyTheD, 273, Bronzestabbed

3rd Granite, 273, Morning

DAMMIT, WHY DIDN'T ANYONE SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE UNDEAD KESTREL! I ALMOST DIED! THERE ARE IMMIGRANTS COMING! GRAAAAAAGH!

...Calm down, Jimmy, there's no reason to panic. All we have to do is kill it before the immigrants I was forced to outpace (Thank you so much Sankis and your Ugath-poxed messenger!)... Now, who do we have who can shoot something like that down so our axedwarves can sort this. Think logically, that's what you were trained for... and who the hell has two bookkeepers anyway? Now I'll have to work! In the mines or something!

3rd Granite, 273, Afternoon.

Having assumed my duties as Overseer on the 3rd of Granite, 273, after some difficulty, it was discovered that the undead had, in some small measure, already begun their assault on Bronzestabbed. I have thus used my authority to deputise three dwarves: Internet Kraken, the miner, PublicOpinion, a woodburner, and Teim, the butcher, to bring this foul creation to ground. They have named themselves, in some black humour, The Corridor of Charities, as they feel they are a one-way gift of important industry dwarves to the undead.

Morale is obviously not a strongpoint of this squad, temporary as it may be. We have assigned 250 bolts to them, only to find we only have 115. Someone obviously didn't find hunting much of a priority here, and all signs point to founding dwarf Leperfish (my superior in matters of accounting).

They attack on the morrow, ammunition or no. Wait... ONE CROSSSBOW?!?

New plan. Internet Kraken, you are now leader (and sole member) of The One-Way Outs. Your mission is to... Wait, what's that?

Some news has arisen... the Kestrel has vanished!

6th Granite, 273

We have searched for three days now, and the murk beast, the kestrel that almost took my life, has vanished. We know nothing of where it is, or whether it still lives. For now, I have designated an area as “First Line”, where we feel we can safely guard any dwarves outside. This is mainly just to allow the refuse pile to be used, and Internet Kraken is now on an inactive schedule. Good thing too, we haven't built a marksman's barracks yet. Also, the animals need to graze. I'm not going to assume everything's safe, but for now, we have to get what we can done, while we can. The order to pen the animals outdoors has once again been given. Although everyone seems to be reluctant to do so for some reason, PublicOpinion having decided there is no wood outside to burn, even if... oh, wait, even I've taken an order too literally sometimes... And everyone's been ordered indoors.

13th Granite, 273

I am a very silly overseer indeed. I had tried many things, but I had completely forgotten that my fellow dwarves had unlocked the doors to let me in, then locked them again! Industry has finally begun once more outdoors, and I can concentrate on what I need to be doing... improving this fortress. The immigrants haven't arrived yet, but projects need to be undertaken to make their coming bearable. Fish, for example, and more plants, and beds... all need to be provided... in fact... where the hell do I sleep anyway? And why hasn't Leperfish talked to me yet?

15th Granite, 273

Okay, Leperfish has informed me of the situation. Including this “Noble Work”. I can definitely understand his concerns about the clouds of evil, as that kestrel was living proof of their dangers. And while I am no great organiser, no leader, I have an idea.

We shall build a mist-sprayer. I'd heard about these, a means of washing dwarves by means of passing river water through gratings. We have the river... we have the means to make gratings, however shoddy... All we need is some means of storing and pumping the water.

Leperfish and I discussed this into the early hours (his rantings of kestrels would disturb me, if I hadn't seen it for myself!), and came up with a plan. We shall construct a mist-sprayer. But there is a problem, one that could impact the future security of the fortress... We are uncertain whether the final pump of the system will fit, and the water shall come from above the fortress entrance, insecure as that is.

We shall begin by building the first stage, eight metal grates. Four for the actual misting system, two each for water intake and outlet. We cannot allow a means to enter the fortress by doing this, so it shall take time. It doesn't help that I hear rumblings of discontent from my relative lack of knowledge regarding overseership.

Well, Ugath take them, we're going to try and make things better!

And so, we're off to a derpy start! Next update either tomorrow or sunday, I'm saving before I attempt to do irreperable harm to the security of the fortress!

So it turns out I'm a liar. This was actually really easy.

Bronzestabbed, the Soundsense Pack!
Version 0.1, July 6th, 2012.
Get it here!

Expect updates with more songs. I'll update this post and post in the thread whenever I do that as well.

As of right now I do not recommend using this with any other Soundsense pack since I combined a lot of triggers together and most importantly I have not thoroughly tested this yet! I'm on a borrowed computer right now. However, in the future I may combine parts of the official Soundsense pack (like combat noises, ambient rain, that guy who narrates some of the announcements in his dwarfy voice) if I feel like it.

Right now, here's the songs I got included and how it'll trigger.

Upon Starting Dwarf Fortress, Loading a Fortress, and the arrival of a new Season:
(This is the main Loop. All other triggers currently interrupt this, then go back to this.)
Bronzestabbed, by Loden Taylor
Fadedmaggot, by Lodon Taylor
The Riches Beneath, by Boing
Strike the Earth!, by Boing

Upon Starting a New Fortress:
Strike the Earth!, by Boing

Upon discovering Raw Adamantine:
The Riches Beneath, by Boing

Upon the arrival of a Caravan:
Agent of the Queen, by Loden Taylor

Upon a Vile Force of Darkness:
The Fields of Vice, by anti-hamaon

Upon an Ambush:
The Fields of Vice, by anti-hamaon

Upon the arrival of a Titan, Forgotten Beast or HFS:
Ugath Call, by PureKamikaze

Upon the arrival of Fiendish Murk: (Or really, any Evil Weather)
The Fields of Vice, by anti-hamaon

Seasons are not separated at all, and all trigger the same main loop.
Right now I have Ambushes and Vile Force of Darkness separate because I'm somewhat anticipating more war-themed music in the future. Once, you know, we have wars. For now though, the Fields of Vice will play because I liked now doomy and ominous it felt.
Ugath Call for stuff with randomly generated syndromes. Does anything other than those three things have random syndromes?
Since I don't know how often Fiendish Murk spawns, it'll play that EVERY time it appears. There are settings to prevent it from playing too often, but I haven't touched that yet. Also, I'd like this to also play for raining blood, but I don't know what the in-game announcements are for that.
Again, have not seriously tested this yet. If there are any bugs, let me know and I'll fix things.
