There's no need to check in on this thread for the next 25-28 hours, as nothing interesting at all will happen. Now go outside and enjoy some fresh air. I actually get nervous if I'm gone too long, worried that Flapperlush will pick a new overseer before I get to nominate myself.

Call for Overseers! OK folks it's that time again! Please fill out this questionnaire if you are ready and willing to be the next Overseer of Bronzestabbed. Please keep in mind that you will need to be ready to take up the save and immediately start playing (you'll have a couple days to poke around and get your things set up of course). You need to have a bunch of free time in the next couple of weeks that you are willing to You should already be reasonably familiar with playing Dwarf Fortress in Fortress mode. You don't need to be a total expert, but you need to have played enough to know the basics of keeping a fortress alive in the face of adverse conditions, managing a whole lot of dwarfs, and so forth. It will also help if you already know how to take screenshots and write updates, but I will help you there if you have any trouble. You have about 32 hours - normally it's 24, but I will be busy tomorrow afternoon most likely so let's say 32 this time! Good luck!

Three signups in the space of 60 seconds is troubling. You people need to find more things to consume your time. May I suggest online gambling? e. The direct link to the sheet is here. You were third, mister Munki.

I haven't played Dwarf Fortress in forever and I'll probably get us all killed, but I'm tired of my dwarfs never accomplishing anything in these LPs, so let's do this! Signed up and ready to go.

Zapdos, loved your turn, mate. Well written, eventful, and helped clear up my somewhat problematical turn. Who knows, maybe I'll win the lotto this saturday and have time to devote to DF LPs, forevaaaaah! But anyways, things are going well, I'm definitely going to be posting some culture/mythology journal entries when I get the opportunity! 'Lessons' must become a thick folio!

Dearest journal, which only exists as a construct in my infant dwarf mind. What trauma an infant dwarf goes through in its first year! Why would my enormous Yak caretaker insist on feeding me sour, alcohol-rich yak milk? Doesn't it realize this causes... causes... brain damage! I can feel my intelligence slipping, like a, what are those squishy things, like a... you know, an unshelled gastropod, a... it's... a slug! Yes, if I hold onto anything from this mental torture, it will be my hatred of slugs! If only I could pull myself away from the yak's iron grip, but it never lets go. Never. It never sets me down, never lets me sleep on a soft pillow... I doubt I could ever sleep again unless it was in a canoe, which is the only thing that resembles this yak arm that holds me. Wait, do yaks have arms? Time for more "milk". It's got to be 130 proof. But, then, it's not so bad. At least it makes my beard glisten. I like beards. I hope I grow a beard like a moose. I like moose, too. I feel more and more shame about my nakedness...

That isn't really fair though. Not everyone is going to be around when the overseer finishes their turn, and 12 overseers can show up fast. 24 hours to sign up lets most people have a chance at being overseer if they want it.

I think if I ever run another succession LP, overseer turns will be determined by arena fights on the side.

Out of curiosity, what's the justification for digging so shallow initially? I almost always tink my way down to a good stone layer before I start doing anything else. Dirt's for farmers to work in, not everyone to live in. I haven't seen every DF LP but the ones I have seen always seem to start with a less than visionary architectural plan that ends up compounding upon itself as people expand where the fort is rather than where it should eventually be. Digging into a hillside to pocket early on so dwarves have a bunk and safe places to stockpile stuff is fine and all, but use of the z-level should be a primary goal given how many layers one has to work with. I know haphazard additions are the name of the game with succession stuff in general, but it'd be nice to see a general plan. I've probably missed it if it has, but have any of these succession runs started from a Reclaim of a partial fortress meticulously (and perhaps maliciously) designed by a third party? Basically I'm saying dirt is ugly and can be avoided with like 5 staircase designations.

I personally can't stand digging my fort deeply since Z navigation is annoying if there are too many levels. This is also generally why I try to embark on flatter ground - good luck following a fight that's fought over 10 thin strips of Z layers.
