I like my guy. The only problem is I can't roleplay a crazy old geezer because all his stats are actually pretty positive. Seems like he's more of a politician than a soldier. In fact, he probably just joined the army because he's ready for death and he's hoping to find a good way out

18 Slate 237 Mosquitos will not leave me alone! It seems like we have been walking forever. Soon we should be arriving at our new home after leaving Veilstake. Thank goodness for that at least. Listening to these old people complain non stop about the sun makes you want to stick a spear right thru their mouth. We met up with them in Shipshook as we had been told we would and together we all will finish this journey together. I dont have much with me but the clothes on my back, but she told us to bring nothing. I have kept her present though and have it hidden away. Last night I had another dream and he came back to me. He told me in 5 days to stay in the middle of the line.

JamieTheD posted:Right, update itself will be posted later tonight, but in the meantime, that's one more interlude from me, showing the migrant list, and some of the notable migrants. Amazingly, I was able to give nearly everyone what they wanted. Except the Bookkeeper (not even I managed that), and the two sheriff wannabes (who I appear to have skipped... poo poo, apologies, guys! Maybe next wave!) I was honestly expecting the preferences to be completely ignored anyway, and bookkeeper/manager being unique jobs makes them even less likely to happen, so I can hardly complain about that. (I was really just thinking that a more "academic" dwarf might be an interesting standpoint to write from when i put that in). Stonecrafter isn't a bad, though it probably means I won't be doing much more than sitting in a sweatshop making a bunch of mugs or figurines or whatever it is we're going to be dumping on the poor traders. Well, it's a safe job. As safe as any job is in this place, anyway. I would like to ask to see the info page on my dwarf at some point as well, but I can wait for that.

And also, could you please modify my dwarfing preferences? I wanted to be a militarydwarf, but what I want to be now is either a noble or a militarydwarf. So please add noble there if you could, I'm 122nd on the list. Actually, I just went and look and now I'm 124th. Have some dwarves been secretly added into the front of the queue? Not that it's serious if so and even more less if an overseer wants to be dwarved or something, but I thought I'd ask.

Die Zombie Die posted:Can I get more info regarding my dwarf please. I got a series of journals I have ready to go and I need what info I can to finish up. But, since it seems I came with no parents it is going to be perfect. For some odd reason your dwarf can't be seen in the legends mode. It's mentioned in your parents' profile and included in the xml dump but can't be filtered in the historical figures list. Very strange, never seen anything like that. Anyway he's just a kid so there wouldn't be anything interesting anyway. Here's some family history: Your maternal grandmother Kubuk Cavechanced was born in 69 but nothing is known about her parents. She was first a farmer in Cobaltsieges but moved to Veilstake and became an architect after marrying your grandfather in 141. She's still living there. Your maternal grandfather Eral Constructbulb, also of unknown parentage, was born in 72 in Veilstake. He started as a clothier but soon began scouting the area around Veilstake. He didn't face any dangers and died of old age two years ago in 235. Kubuk and Eral had only one child, "Vorpal Swordfish" Swordweaver who was born in Veilstake in 201. Your father has a much longer family line that includes people like Sigun Planktop, the King of Rare Ship 7-15 and Ustuth Blockadestrapped, the general of Rare Ship 16-94. Your paternal grandmother Erush Ruletin lived her lives still in Cavepacks where she has scouted since 103. Your paternal grandfather Kadol Tallceiling was a fatihful worshipper of Ugath Muckcrypts and a member of a cult called The Creed of Bile. He started as a ranger in Pagetin but moved to Cavepacks to marry Erush and became a cook. After fifty years he got bored and began wandering the wilds. In 169 he conforted minotaur Those Wanderedgleamed the Frenzy of shocking but had to escape. In 210 he tried again but was struck down. The minotaur itself was a great enemy of Rare Ship and had killed several ancestors of Bronzestabbed, including Saoritficis's grandfather and Geri Khan's grandmother. It was struck down only six years ago by Id Trumpetproblem, one of the most famous monster slayers of Rare Ship. Erush and Kadol also had only one child "Kaboom" Pulleyplains who was born in Cavepacks in 201. "Vorpal Swordfish" and "Kaboom" married in 215 have two children. Your sister Olin Daggerdweller was born in 218 and is married with Fath Dishinked. They have no children. Here's father's family tree:

Rurik posted:Leperflesh, I checked the dwarfing list and didn't find Sankis from there. I also can't recall someone named that posting. Is that dwarf someone you just made up or is it a goon like us? While writing the prologue, I could not predict who would be on the dwarfing list, and in any case Sankis is (I assume!) not someone expected to come to the fortress (or is she?). So I wanted to pick a goon name that would be iconic but not give special favors to anyone who might be participating. Sankis of course came to mind because he (she?) hasn't been around DF LPs in years. Of course, within days after starting Bronzestabbed, Sankis posted a little in the DF thread in Games and is apparently getting back into dwarf fortress, so, I dunno if I had any influence on that happening. I'm still not certain it was the best choice. I could have invented someone, or I could have contacted and discussed it with some other goon. I dunno. I went with my gut on this one! quote:And also, could you please modify my dwarfing preferences? Sure, done. quote:Actually, I just went and look and now I'm 124th. Yeah, I moved Jimmy up the list now that he's actually dwarfed in game. I wanted the dwarfing list to match the in-game list and be in the right order. I left his old row there with a comment so it would be easier to see what happened (see row 231) I'm not sure why you'd have jumped two places though, I've only added the one row. Keep in mind that Row 1 is the heading row, so if you're on row 124, that means you're 123rd in line. I don't remember inserting any other rows, at least. But, I'm the only one with access to the list, so maybe I did something somewhere and forgot.

I can't seem to find the Official Goon Dwarf Fortress Pack(tm). Is there one that has all the addons I need to make this new version understandable? I am mostly looking for something to help hold off murder spirals and to help me visualize the Z axis. I tried the mod thread, but that isn't really what I want. I don't want to change the game, just understand it better.

Dwarf Therapist will help you keep track of moods, among other things (although nothing is really proof against tantrum spirals). Both these utilities are included in the pack, along with a graphical tileset (Phoebus by default, the same as this LP uses I think.)

drat, do you have to go back to a quarterly save? That sucks. While you're taking screenshots of dwarves can you figure out if any new pets arrived (probably there's a bunch). People like to know about pets.

Leperflesh posted:drat, do you have to go back to a quarterly save? That sucks. Yeah, buncha pets, most of them pastured for now. I believe we finally have a couple of breeding pairs, although the nest boxes remain mysteriously unclaimed. Future overseers be warned: We're on the Burrow system now, and while there's currently only two burrows (Indoors Only: What it says on the tin, and First Line: A slightly limited area around the fort), dwarves will not go outside them for the most part. The save reset doesn't suck so much as having to rename and screencap all those new dwarves again... but that's okay, it's do-able (in the morning), and as a bonus for when I (should be) leaving my overseership, I'll talk about a vile woman that's apparently important enough to have a statue and several engravings based on her death!

This is true, but I honestly hadn't considered not screencapping all the dwarfnotes... so saturday will have update, and dorfnotes pt. 2 (correcting for the dorfs I forgot to dorfnote last time, and the second wave), while Sunday will have the legends thing (which will be easiest of the lot, and so leave me with happy memories of overseeing, instead of "ARGH, CRASH, SO MUCH RAGE!"
