Why Is There Apprehension Towards Small Talk?   Engaging in small talk makes many people anxious. This anxiety comes down to one thing - FEAR. Fear of being rejected. Fear of having nothing to contribute. Fear of getting stuck in an awkward conversation.   FEAR NOT! You have things to contribute and with a little planning and practice you will never run out of things to say.   As for rejection, everyone (including the most well-connected, confident person) has this fear. So, if everyone has this fear, then everyone will welcome you engaging them in conversation with them.   So make someone’s day. Engage in some small talk with them.

It is interesting how unsocial lives became in the last year and a half, al,OST that people had to relearn how to be human. Thankful to not be intimidated and strike conversation when someone seems at ill ease, just to set a lighter tone to the environment Frank Agin. Such a good start.

Small talk is one of those skills that some people just seem to have, and others think they will never be able to cultivate - I used to be one of those people! But like a lot of skills, fear and inability to participate in small talk becomes easier with practice in conversations with unfamiliar people. Bering able to participate in small talk can be a very important life skill! Thanks for the post!

Small talk is a great way to learn interesting facts about people that don't revolve around what they do for a living that you can use to build connections that could pay off in the long term.
