2017-18 Communications Coordinator (826 CHI)
 
 
 
826 National will work with Corps 18 volunteers to build the organization’s capacity to work with underserved youth in order to develop essential writing and creative thinking skills that lead to academic success. Corps 18 volunteers will support volunteer recruitment, program development, and organizational capacity building in seven different writing and tutoring centers located in seven urban areas across the country (San Francisco, Ann Arbor/Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, and New York City). Additionally, 826 National will deploy AmeriCorps*VISTA members to work directly in our centers to provide for the sustainability of volunteer recruitment, training, and retention efforts; conduct development activities, and support in-school and on-site program and program expansion efforts to provide field trips, scholarships and summer programs for under-resourced youth.

Member Duties : VISTA member will build local awareness of 826CHI through community partnerships to recruit more community volunteers, in order to sustain and expand free writing and tutoring programs for underserved youth. Member will also build local awareness of 826CHI through communications campaigns across social media platforms, website, and traditional media to recruit more community volunteers, in order to sustain and expand free writing and tutoring programs for underserved youth. Member will support a system for measuring and sharing the impact of 826CHI’s literacy programs on underserved youth and build relationships with media outlets to share the impact of 826CHI’s literacy programs on underserved youth, in order to attract financial and volunteer resources to maintain free programming. Lastly, member will develop a system to coordinate and archive contacts across the organizations many communications platforms to improve external messaging about 826CHI’s service to underserved youth.
