The Internet Archive is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Community Programs team in our Archiving & Data Services group. The Community Programs team cultivates groups of affiliated organizations and works to provide services, training, education, and support to expand their efforts for long-term stewardship of digital library and archive collections. The Program Coordinator will support the program’s expansion, including work to build cooperative curation, archiving, and access for web and digital collections among art and museum libraries and other cultural heritage organizations. This Program Coordinator will be central to recruiting, supporting, and managing new cohorts of peer libraries and archives, including with art and museum libraries across the country, and facilitating their work creating and expanding access to a comprehensive archival collection of digital and web-published art and cultural material. 


Reporting to the Community Programs Manager, Archiving and Data Services, the Program Coordinator will be charged with coordinating grant activities, managing program member activities, serving as a central communications hub for the program, general project management, and providing training and technical and curatorial support in collection building and metadata. The role will also help coordinate the development of an unified access portal to member collections and help facilitate researchers and other data services for users of these collections. The Program Coordinator’s role in strategic planning, communications management, implementation, and program reporting, will cultivate a growing consortium of art and museum libraries and other heritage organizations in support of the program’s mission of enhancing the open archives of art and cultural primary sources available to scholars.


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Work directly with the Community Programs team, and a diverse and distributed team of institutional program members and their staff and representatives, to execute program objectives, communication plans, and conduct outreach and community management.

  • Support technical and curatorial aspects of archive collection building, especially web archiving, by conducting crawling, quality assurance, metadata creation, and related tasks. Also collaborate with engineers on technological development related to program websites and collection discovery and access systems, and facilitate scholarly use of program member collections. 

  • Manage relationships with participating libraries and archives and develop both regional and national support networks that facilitate grassroots peer mentorship between members of the growing cohort.

  • Guide and help organize logistics for outreach and training activities, including webinars, open calls, in-person events, and online community tools.  

  • Represent the program in public-facing events and professional communities, including conferences and meetings involving public speaking.


Qualification and Skills:

 

  • 1-2 years of demonstrated project management or technical or community support experience working directly with large, high-value cultural heritage institutions is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working directly for or with libraries, archives, museums, and other memory institutions or non-profits or demonstrated knowledge of library and archive principles, practices, and standards is preferred.

  • Experience with open-source technology products, working with a diverse team that includes technology, product, and  support staff is preferred.

  • Experience with product operations, reference or patron services is preferred.

  • Experience working within distributed teams and/or experience working remotely is a plus.

  • Must be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects, contracts, deadlines, and responsibilities and work in and enjoy a loosely-structured, dynamic work environment that includes a globally distributed remote team.

  • Candidates must have strong written, communication, and presentation skills to represent the project at national and international events.

  • Flexibility, self-reliance, a sense of humor, a creative approach to problem-solving, and a production-oriented mentality are valuable qualities for success in the role.
