Books & Love Letters #41 [proud to be a Word Warrior!]

Books & Love Letters is a weekly post in which I discuss all the books I received in the previous week (for review, bought, borrowed, swapped ect...), tell you what I've read and reviewed and showcase all the pretty letters that come to my mailbox.
Lovely Laura from The Traveling Owl lent the name and hosts the original Books & Love Letters post.

Welcome back to The Book Shop Assistant!
Wow, what a week! I had a really great book week and although my head is spinning and I want nothing more than going to bed I'm also really excited! I had my very first cover reveal post this week, Disney*Hyperion were showering me with love and CampNaNoWriMo June kicked off to a great start!
Here are the deeds:

New On The Shelves
eARCs:

Glitch by Heather Anastasiu
I've seen this around on a lot of blogs and the premises fascinates me. Computers are an integral part of our lives these days and I don't think that we're too far from having micro-chips implanted into our own flesh. Like any open-minded person I can see all the good that can come from that but also all the bad and dangerous things. I used to read a lot about this when I was a teen (10 years ago) and I'm curious to see how things have changed in the light of our evolving technology.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
This one sounds really great to me and it's been on my wish-list for ages! I love kids with super-powers so I think/hope that Ruby and I will become fast friends. I haven't read Bracken's other book but I heard good things and I hope that I'm going to like this one.

Beta by Rachel Cohn
I have read three of the books Cohn has co-authored with David Levithan and I really like her writing voice. Moreover it was recommended to me so I'm happy to give this one a try even though the premises is one that I'd usually give a pass.

After: Nineteen Stories of The Apocalypse and Dystopia edited by Ellen Datlow & Terri Windling
It feels like I haven't read an anthology in ages. This one is edited by Datlow & Windling, who also did Teeth, and the contributor list features a.o. Carrie Ryan, Beth Revis and Sarah Rees Brennan. Sold.

Break My Heart 1,000 Times by Daniel Waters
Yay, a ghost story! And the cover looks nerve-wrecking! Waters is the author of the Generation Dead series, which I haven't read, and GoodReads describes his new book as "a delectably creepy and suspenseful thriller". So all for me :)
*thanks to Disney*Hyperion via netGalley for allowing my access to The Darkest Minds, Beta, After and Break My Heart 1,000 Times.

Recently Read
7 Clues to Winning You by Kristin Walker: This was quite adorable. Light and fast-paced yet with lots of teenage wisdom and depth. I liked Blythe and Luke a lot even though their relationship felt a little too smooth and constructed at times. Yet they had a lot of funny one-liners and I was laughing tears at some scenes. Great for a light summer afternoon!

CampNaNoWriMo
Camp is currently going great! I have really nice cabin mates, though I'm sad Laura from Stranger Than Writing is not among them :( Wordcount-wise I'm at 4,500+ words and happily going! I think I will buy myself a nice treat when I hit 10k ^_^

Alright folks, that's it, I have to get back to my novel! I hope you have a nice weekend and see you next week! Don't forget to leave a comment! :)

  6. Ahhhh! I'm so ENVIOUS of your copy of Darkest Minds. Disney isn't accepting blogger requests on Netgalley which totally sucks. I can't wait until reviews start cropping up so I can find out how amazing it probably is. Much love for Brightly Woven, yo. Fabulous!
