Help build the Ultimate Damon Albarn Playlist
There’s no other musician quite like Damon Albarn. After all, who else can claim to have headlined Glastonbury with two different bands in two consecutive years, to have won the pinnacle of music awards from the Grammys to the BRITs or to have written an opera or two alongside some of Britain’s best known pop songs?
Putting it simply; he’s unique, and that’s we love him at BBC 6 Music, and we know you feel the same way too.
So, with an exclusive interview on Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone this Sunday night at 8pm along with extended broadcast of his Dr Dee opera and co-conspirator Tony Allen joining Gilles Peterson on Saturday April 28 to talk about their African adventures – what a better opportunity to celebrate this British cultural icon, and ask you to create the Ultimate Damon Albarn playlist?
We want your suggestions of
* Your favourite tracks from Damon’s bands – Gorillaz, The Good the Bad and the Queen, DRC Music, Rocket Juice & The Moon, his Monkey opera...oh, and Blur of course
* People he’s collaborated with from Dan the Automator to James Murphy, De La Soul, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Kano
* Inspirations which range from The Kinks and XTC to Pavement and Malian Music
* B sides, rarities & lost gems from his vast back catalogue.
The world is really your oyster with this one, so let us know what you want us to play by Tweeting us and him using #Damon6Music, leave a message on our Facebook page or here on the blog, e-mail us or add a track to our collaborative Damon playlist on Spotify.
And remember to listen into all the Damon Albarn programming all this week on 6 Music and Now Playing from 6pm on Sunday
