In My Mailbox #37 [the waiting issue]

In my Mailbox is a weekly meme started by The Story Siren which gives bloggers a chance to showcase all the books they received in the previous week (for review, bought, borrowed, ect...) but for which they sometimes have no space to showcase in detail on their blogs.

Hey guys, nice to have you all back!
I know there has been a lot of upheaval over this meme and its host and I know that you're probably sick of hearing about it. However, for the time being, I have decided to stick with this meme. I, in no way, support what has happened but I do understand that mistakes do happen and I therefore feel silly to distance myself completely. IMM has been, for me, a place a come together once a week and it makes me sad to see it fall apart. I'm not sure if I'm going to change this meme but there are some changes coming next week. If this meme changes, please understand that those changes are due to necessity rather than reaction to the bloggosphere.
Now on to happier topics: I'm still in the throes of my internship competition, desperately trying not to go mad in the process (the waiting is the worst part), and therefore I haven't had much time for anything and the postman seemed to have the same problem LOL

New On The Shelves:
ARCs:
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
Ah, it's definitely turning summer and I'm on the hunt for new YA contemporaries! I came across this on netGalley and it sounds like a good book and one or two lazy afternoons in the sun! "A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another. [...] A dreamy summer read, full of characters who stay with you long after the story is over." Goodreads summary
*thanks to Penguin via netGalley for allowing me access to this ARC.

Bought:
The Midnight Palace by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
This is the second book in the Niebla trilogy, which isn't really a series but a collection of Zafón's YA books. Each book is a stand-alone; what they have in common is the haunting atmosphere and, I have heard, there is one thread that loosely connects them. I haven't read this one yet so I can't say if it's true. But I'm looking forward to finding out!

Recently Read:
Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby: Once again a BIG THANK YOU to Allison for sending me a review copy! I really enjoyed reading Shooting Stars and contrary to expectations it wasn't just cute and fluffy but a showed a great amount of depth and wisdom.
Shelfability: Acquire!

Nur Ein Blick von Dir by Sue Ransom: Ah, I'm in love with this series! It is helplessly romantic (sometimes a bit too much), a heart-pounding thrill-ride and set in London! This is the German translation of Perfectly Reflected and a big review for this is coming on Monday.
Shelfability: Covet!

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma: I'm still not sure what to make of this. On the one hand I loved it: Suma's writing is amazing and I loved the premises and the creepiness of it all. On the other hand I hated the open ending. I felt extremely unsatisfied after turning the last page.
Shelfability: Acquire.

Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones: Another series I have absolutely fallen in love with! Charley Davidson is one cool heroine and I'm just a sucker for good urban fantasy featuring the grim reaper and the son of satan! :)
Shelfability: Covet!

Free Four by Veronica Roth: Like everybody else I can not wait for Insurgent (my copy is ordered but since it's an import it takes ages) and therefore I needed something to help me wait. Free Four is a great little snippet and absolutely worth reading!
Shelfability: Can only be read online.

New Girl by Paige Harbison: This is another book where I'm not sure what to make of it - unfortunately this time in the negative sense. I didn't like the writing and the plot was rather dull and as repetitive as a broken record. I constantly wanted to shake the protagonist! However, the last 15 pages held a lot of wisdom on life, death and growing up and are the book's one redemption factor.
Shelfability: Borrow.

Alright, that's it from me. I'm shocked to see how many books I read last week. Well, reading is a good measure to distract from waiting out my internship >.<
