Lessons from the CIA—How to Pivot in Times of Crisis

Presented by Michele Rigby Assad, Inspirational Speaker

One thing you learn planning and carrying out operations in war zones is that no matter how hard you try, you can’t prepare for every contingency. You have to get good at pivoting in the moment and making decisions on the fly. Such is the new world thrust on us in 2020 and 2021. Strong leadership understands that now is not the time to maintain continuity of operations—it is time to rethink everything.

Learning Objectives:

  • - Learn how to harness fear to cultivate optimism and resiliency.
  • - Understand how to promote an environment in which your team members’ unique experiences, outlook, and creativity can be harnessed to solve operational challenges.

Building Attendance by Partnering With DMOs and Meetings Trends

Presented by Zack Davis, VP Destination Services, Louisville Tourism

Zack Davis, VP of destination services for Louisville Tourism, will inform attendees on recent trends in the meetings industry as well as provide an update on the destination and how planners can partner with DMOs to drive attendance to their meetings.

Davis will give several examples of how Louisville helps its clients build attendance and provide examples of two case studies that involve paid advertising to support membership growth and attendance at a show.

Davis will also provide a "lay of the land" on how Louisville was impacted by COVID-19 and how the destination is recovering, with key data points on hotel occupancy, ADR (average daily rate) and trend lines.

Learning Objectives:

  • - Forecasting data that will inform site selection and conference date options.
  • - How to build attendance by utilizing the free services provided by DMCs.
  • - Tips on how to market the destination for your meeting.
  • - Best practices on partnering with a DMO.
