Lilbear was way
to young when we got him and used to climb to the highest spot he could find and cry like a bear cub until we came and got him.

When it was discovered my Bandit had cancer, the vets at
the UTenn vet clinic said that he probably had been neutered too young, contributing to his propensity toward urinary tract cancer. I had adopted him from an animal shelter, so I had no idea how old he was when he was neutered, but I've since seen research that suggests this is true of cats and ferrets.

46. Most pet shop ferrets
are sold too young and fixed too young. They are trying to change that. My oldest one has had his spleen removed but didn't have lymphoma though he is under close watch. But he is an old man for a ferret at 5 and a half.

204. That is so damn FUNNY! Thanks for the laugh, Sparky
and I'm glad you got defrosted by the KOEB fireplace. There was plenty of hot chocolate -- cold beer wouldh't appeal after snow-moving in that howling cold wind. As I write this, it's around 3 PM the next day and the sky is a cloudless, hard blue but the wind is still blowing and it is very cold. Definiitely hot chocolate/fireplace weather.

I hope the next time you get suited up in your non-revealing snow moving gear you have someone take a picture and share it with us. But remember, we think you look good without it too!

I never noticed that "KOEB Bartender/Security" next to your KOEB smilie in your sig line before. Love it!!

I made the mistake of clearing the driveway, and by evening, it all had blowed back in the driveway... with the same 2 foot drifts. Then the plow came down the road. It was not a pretty picture. Let's just say I'm glad the machines are loud, so he couldn't hear what I was telling him about his ancestry.

170. Here in WI, we don't "move" snow.
I let it sit as long as possible. Once the plows go through, then I'll go out and curse at my little Toro snow-thrower. But our last storm (yesterday) left about 1-1/2 inches on the ground. I left it, and the sun got it today.

Sparky's back, and in good snark-o-riffic form, too! :loveya:

I actually spent quite an interesting hour or so with Google (spelling caterpillar and Keith Olbermann all sorts of ways, and pairing the dif. spellings), trying to find out if anyone had used the metaphor anywhere in connection w/ KO.

The answer appears to be exactly what you said, Hope: no one else in cyberspace has used that figure of speech to describe his brows.

Sorry I missed you all last night. I stayed home from work and was on the computer so much during the day trying to get caught up on the wrinkles threads, I just didn't feel like getting on the computer anymore.

49. Hi KOEBers - I posted the start of the Archive Thread for KO show days
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 08:27 PM by Nothing Without Hope
here in the DU Group:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=315&topic_id=264#

It's for KOEB links, excerpts and commentary starting yesterday, 3-7-05. I also posted the first reply to the OP, which is the collected info for yesterday. I hope you'll look it over. For celebration of our first day with a Clubhouse, I added some of what I think are high points in last night's thread.

We will be taking turns with posting a reply in that thread with iinks for that day. Doesn't have to be as elaborate as what I did for the starting splash, but we do need to save the links so we can find things. Helpful to give some idea of the main points as well, plus any Great Moments on the thread. I've given some explanatory stuff in the OP, see what you think.

I do love that picture in the OP. You can see the intelligence and snark, but there's a warmth there too.

Hope he's feeling better. If it's his back, I empathize - I went through that some years ago and it is hell. (OK now after surgery)

It's blizzarding outside, but not by the warm fire with you guys. Good to see you!

116. Ohhh, yeah. I do like hot chocolate and it's the perfect night for it.
The wind is really howling. When it gets like that, the snow hurts when it hits you. Earlier today they were saying about 6 inches accumulation (on top of the old snow that is already there), but the wind is worse than usual so there will be big drifts. The road crews have a tough job, but they are really pros and will work all night clearing the roads. I doubt they'll have to cancel school tomorrow.

But oh yeah, I'm staying off the roads tonight and I sure hope Sparky is too. It's treacherously slick.
:scared:

And that is, of course, a great smilie. I hope you'll read what I wrote about your smilie wizardry in the commentary at the end of the 3/7 installment in the Archive Thread

Thanks on the Archive Thread. I am assuming (as I wrote in the OP) that we will be passing around the duty to post for a particular day. But it doesn't have to be as big a deal as I made it for the 3/7 post, and then there was the planning and the OP too. I'm hoping that continuing it once it's started won't be a burden. I could have skipped writing the commentaries, but for that first post the moment seemed to call for it somehow.

I just checked outside, and the storm is bad. It was raining earlier today and there was also a lot of melting ice and snow from an earlier storm. Now all that is frozen and there was freezing rain before the heavy snow started around 6-7 PM EST. It is REALLY slippery. I hope Sparky gets inside quickly and doesn't have to drive anywhere.

78. I knew this political translator stuff would come back to haunt them.
I had the FBI following me around a job fair because my last name, at the time, was Arabic (married last name). Turns out, all they wanted to know is if I could speak Arabic and would I like to be a translator.
They were really under-the-gun, so to speak, to fill Arabic translator positions, so I rather suspect the CIA was, too.
How come none of these agencies didn't realize they needed Middle Eastern translaters after the Cold War, anyway? Particularly after the bombing of the Kobar Towers, the USS Cole and the first attempt at the WTC?
This guy speaking is hitting it on the head.

89. One more of the myriad facets of the stupidity of the don't ask/don't tell
rule in the military. Not only do you get strongly encouraged to stay closeted (making you a much bigger security risk because of the vulnerability to blackmail) but now a GAO report shows that large numbers of key personnel, INCLUDING TRANSLATORS OF CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT LANGUAGES, got kicked out because they were openly gay. Stupid, cruel, wasteful, dangerous...I'd better not get started. Here's the story:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=1632718
The thread includes updates on the new legislation introduced to knock down this anti-gay rule.

131. Yeah, it's such a rellief to spend a fraction of the time waiting
and rebooting and generally being too tense for a good time.

And speaking of well-timed ripostes, please check out what I did with the start of the new Archive Thread in the OP and the 3/7 entry, especially the last part, which is on the high points of last night's KOEB thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=315&topic_id=264#

I am assuming we will be passing this job of archiving daily links around among us regulars. I went way overboard because it was the start of the thread and also the first full day of our new Group; later entries can be simpler. But we should keep up with saving the links.

Anyway, see what you think of it!

arranged to fit the concocted story. And they've alraady "lost" the car, which would provide important forensic evidence that I'm betting would prove the US version is a lie.

Absolutely NO ONE is going to believe them, except the Kool-Aid drinkers of the US.

I have heard that the Italians are going to investigate too. I hope that's true. And that their investigators watch their backs for arranged "accidents" or sudden tendencies to "suicide" involuntarily.

Horrible.

As for his hanging w/ Bush-41, I think it's good for this country that folks overseas are seeing two recently-elected U.S. presidents behaving like rational, articulate human beings. Shows them just HOW MUCH of an aberration the current occupant of the WH is, by contrast.

P.S. Rev. - his name is Ramzey. It's Arabic for "king," derived from "Ramses," which is "Pharaoh," of course.

Yep. That guy.
;)

So far, no one gives my Ramzey grief over his name. Of course, he's the tallest boy in his class, thus far, and has that sort of "Harry Potter" look - the "you know I'm smart, but I'm also fun, but if you get in my face, I'll turn you into a toad" thing goin' on.

to do the Archive links posts for tomorrow's show and Thursday's show. I did yesterday's (3/7) and will also do today's (3/8), and Seito says she'll do Friday's link post. That leaves the Wednesday and Thursday shows this week. How about it?

The archive thread is here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=315&topic_id=264

It doesn't have to be nearly as elaborate as I made the first post. (I thought the special occasion called for something extra.) I'll see if I can leave a simpler example for today's show. (Will be posted after the transcript is available tomorrow.)

Please?

201. What a mess!
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 08:50 AM by Botany
For a weeknight ...... empty bottles, beer cans, glasses, and
smelly Estrogen soaked towels.

The EDVs are like a family of grizzly bears on the feed .....
dead fish heads, half eaten moose, and a cabin ripped up looking
for honey.

Stephanie :loveya: Miller

BTW anybody miss Alison?

205. Hey, Botany, it isn't THAT bad! Lots of hot chocolate cups, though

...and the fireplace needs some tidying up. Sparky was mostly out moving snow and then being warmed up afterwards, so no ripped bodices lying around. And, as always, open doors and windows will take care of all the leftover :loveya:s.

Just goes to show, never underestimate a bunch of passionate EDVs! The fish heads must have been from all the ferrets upthread. As for the half-eaten moose, if you and the other guys had been there the whole time, there wouldn't have been any left!

BTW, when I wrote the commentary for the high points of the KOEB thread yesterday, you were mentioned. Check it out! (The commentary is at the end of the first reply to the OP, which is the entry for the 3/7 show.)

Did you see Sparky's new sig line? Bleever's saying it would look good in white block letters on a black T shirt -- sounds good to me!

See you later :hi:
