- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2005You say that you just bought a shortwave radio but don't know where to start to find some interesting programming? Pick up "Passport to World Band Radio." You'll be finding out where to tune after spending a little while with this very well executed shortwave guide.
This book has reviews on the popular shortwave radios, and tuning information. There is a section that goes hour by hour and lists the countries that are transmitting at that time in English. There is a similar section, but for those who are living in an English speaking country who wish to hear shortwave broadcasts from there homeland: Greece, Israel, France, Egypt, et al. Finally, if you pick up something on your radio and need to figure out where it is being broadcast from, there is a guide in the back that lists by frequency and time.
All in all, this is a very handy book. If you are thinking about buying a shortwave set, or just bought one, buy this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2005If you are an enthusiast of short-wave radio, then this publication offers much in the way of general and technical information regarding broadcasting from near and afar. My introduction into the realm of short-wave reception came via a present: Sangean ATS 803-A. Immediately I searched for information as to broadcasting frequencies and times;and, this was prior to the Internet -- therefore, there was very little data to be had until I discovered Passport to World Band Radio.
I commend this publication to anyone, beginner or professional, who has has a significant interest in short-wave. The 2005 edition includes many interesting articles; however, of particular note is the data concerning antennas. And the section entitled "What's On Tonight?" is especially invaluable for its brevity and information. So, if you are either a beginner or long-term enthusiast in the realm of Short-wave, then purchase the 2005 edition. You will be impressed at the thoroughness of the text; and the advertisements are well-designed.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2015I like the book it sold as used but I can't help to believe that it's brand new, and I don't like used stuff. A amazon " rep " recommend me to try their used books and if I didn't like it send it back will amazon will never see this book again.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2005It is the third time that I buy this book, and it has always delivered. Excellent for choosing a new radio or antenna, and to know what is the radio station I find at whatever frequency and time.
Also good for general information on the world of short wave radio, and at a reasonable price.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2015Very good, beter then expected, thank you
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2005I'm fairly new to SW listening. I own about 10 different worldband radios, and got tired of just hit-or-miss finding stations to listen to (although I admit that's one of the cool parts about worldband), so I decided to pick up this book, which I couldn't find at any local bookstores.
This book give a tremendous amount of information on what is available on worldband, and it's easy enough for the beginner (like me) to understand.
It also gives you MULTIPLE advertisements for the same products -- mostly Eton/Grundig. We're talking about some radios being listed in ads 10 or more times. Some advertising salesman just didn't know when to let up. That's about the only drawback I can think of.
I can't imagine owning a worldband radio without having this book as a resource.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2005I brought a previous edition of this book and used it to buy a radio and to help me to listen to it while I was travelling.
I received short wave broadcasts, particularly from Radio Australia.
The radio that I ended up with (Lowe HF150) is no longer reviewed but it did everthing that was promised. I was able to receive all the short wave that I wanted.
The frequencies do change with time but it is possible to work round this.

4.0 out of 5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuck for something to listen to....
Excellent book, giving details of a large number of radio stations world wide, and their broadcast times. Loads of fascinating information. Slightly disappointed with the reviews of the receiving equipment. I felt there were lots of other equipment that deserved a mention.
