Let’s begin with a little trivia, “Name a singer who has gold records, is a member of three different bands and is a solo artist?” Need a hint? He has his own tequila and a chain of cantinas. The answer is Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar.

The Miracle Mile Shops inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino is home to Cabo Wabo Cantina, which is the flagship for the renowned restaurant chain. Cabo Wabo Las Vegas is a two-story, 15,000 square foot dining and music venue that combines the laid back beach vibe of Cabo San Lucas with the excitement of the Las Vegas strip.

In addition to dining, the main level offers a tequila bar and a climate controlled patio overlooking the action on the strip. There is also live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s not uncommon for Sammy Hagar to jam a live set on stage. There is no cover, even if the Red Rocker himself graces the stage. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday are Karaoke nights (9pm to close) with a live band on hand Sunday. Those who try to sing are rewarded with a complimentary shot of Cabo Wabo tequila. The upper level is available for private events and it also hosts various parties, including a UFC Fight Night 24 viewing party this Saturday, March 26. Watch Antonio Rogerio Nogueira square off against Phil Davis in a light-heavyweight bout. Admission is free. Revelers go wild for $1 Beer Mondays, it is one of the better deals around. Every Monday guests can enjoy a variety of draft beers for a buck 9pm-11pm, selection includes Mexican beers like Tecate and Sol.

You might come for the rock ‘n roll and killer Cabo Wabo Tequila Margaritas, but it’s worth staying for the Mexican fare. Cabo Wabo Cantina Las Vegas has a savory menu that blends coastal Mexican and Tex Mex cuisine. There are a wide selection appetizers, soups and salads, burgers, tacos, fajitas and specialties like Tequila shrimp and fish tacos. A meal here won’t break the bank all entrees are $21 or less.

To get us started our waitress brought over a basket of warm chips and mild salsa for dipping. After looking over the menu my husband chose chicken tacos ($11) and I opted for the carnitas platter ($17) both are served with rice and beans. The tacos were tasty as you might imagine. The carnitas were delicious. The pork was cooked low and slow to achieve the best flavor and ultimate tenderness. The tender pieces are then roasted at a high heat to create a crisp caramelized crust. Pile those succulent bits into warm corn tortillas and dress with cool guacamole and enjoy. I savored each bite and suspect you will, too.

For a place that has all the makings for a tourist hotspot, it is a nice surprise Cabo Wabo Cantina is an all-around good value, especially, since it is located at the heart of Strip.
