Welcome! We love CHAMBER MUSIC and want to share great music with you! At the core of CMIsc is an opportunity to receive five intensive coaching sessions on the assigned literature (twice a week over 17 days). Since the COVID-19 pandemic continues to interfere with our plans to be together in our southern California area, we have decided to continue Chamber Music Institute/So Cal as we did last summer, but with the intention of meeting indoors in well ventilated areas, as well as outdoors in shaded patios. We encourage you to follow instructions to maintain social distancing, frequently washing your hands when “safer at home,” and wearing a mask even when outdoors. At the same time we are fortunate as musicians to have the joy of playing our instruments when we’re feeling lonely or at a loss for “what to do?”
VACCINATION: All faculty and students must be vaccinated. Your vaccination status will be checked at the first rehearsal of your ensemble. Masks must be worn at all rehearsals.
CONCERT: We’re hoping for a July 24 concert at the Nixon Library at which we'll create videos of your groups. If we cannot have the Nixon Library, we have a backup plan for your performances on July 24. Our aim is to provide a performance opportunity for every group, playing a short Mozart movement, as well as newer works that allow for improvisation.

AUDITION (to help us place you with players of similar skill and experience)
• performing a 3 octave Major or minor scale and a solo of your choice demonstrating tone and vibrato [if this is too difficult for you, please consider waiting a year until you gain these skills]
• performers in our July 18, 2021, concert do not need to audition again
• after you apply, you will be contacted for your choice of audition time on April 30 or May 1, via Zoom.
• Pre-formed string quartets do not need to audition, but it would help us in selecting your assigned music; if you already know which Mozart movement you wish to study, the audition is not needed. It is highly recommended for pre-formed quartets to submit a video. Contact us for the video procedure.
INVITATION: Selected players will be invited (via email) by May 7, 2022. After we have formed our groups, since we're all in a precarious health situation, we welcome additional applicants to form our Wait List. You will be informed about your chances after you apply.
TUITION: $125 due by May 20. Our tuition is low, thanks to several generous donors. The Early Discount Tuition is $100, if postmarked or paid online by May 14. Scholarships of $50 are available for 2nd child within a family.
