Man stabbed to death near East Dulwich station

An 18-year-old man has been stabbed to death near a railway station in south London.

Police were called to reports of an assault close to East Dulwich station just after midnight on Saturday and found the man with stab wounds.

He was taken to Kings College Hospital in Denmark Hill, but was pronounced dead at 0215 GMT.

A police spokesman said the man's next of kin were yet to be informed and he had not yet been formally identified.

Knife crime

"Our officers and the London Ambulance Service attended," he added.

"An 18-year-old man was discovered with stab wounds.

"We await formal identification and detectives from the homicide and serious crime command are investigating."

According to figures released by the Metropolitan Police on 18 January there has been an increase in knife crime in London.

Between January and December 2010 knife crime rose by 8%, statistics revealed.
