Buyer beware

I WANT TO TELL YOU A STORY

when you look in your favorite magazine to look for a motorhome and see the name of the company and then visit that company and decide to buy from that company you would think that you are buying from that company especialey when they have a large nameplate above the door with the said name that was in the mag YES?

Well NO realy because that company has talked one of it` s employees in to takeing out a finance licence and then that company also talks him in to pretending that he has rented a peice of land from that company and starts to sell motorhomes from that peice of land.

Why should the owner of that company do this you may well ask.

WHY because the owner of that company has been to Jail and is not allowed to sell vehicles as he does not have a licence

AND what happens when the motorhomes that the employee has sold have problems and you need some redress the owner of the company that you though sold it to you with his company name in a well known Mag and his name above his door, What does he say? I DID NOT SELL IT TO YOU.

AND the poor sod that thought he was doing his employer a favour is well and truley in the frame and as he has not made a penny out of the deal and has not got a penny to his name can not pay any compensation to the poor bloke that brought the motorhome from him.

THUS the dealer can walk away with a big smile on his fat face.

NOW THINK BEFORE YOU BUY

Sorry for your troubles Micky! These sort of shenanigans are common in the UK particularly in the motor trade I believe

I don't remember the history behind this..........But I think (if you are in the position to) you should name and shame.

This sounds similar to events that took place with a large dealer based on the main A41 a year or two back who appears to still be trading?

Hi reply to you all no things have not gone well, the employee that sold me the van was sacked not long after I purchased it (not because of my problem) O and he had is licence taken off him by trading standards now I beleive that they have another patsy to do the same.

it went to another case managment last week No 3 and the employee that they say sold me the motorhome now wants time to bring in the dealer to the procedings so the judge has given him time to sort himself out this is nealy two years now and the warrentee is up next month the big white elephant is still standing on my drive moveing nowhere.

SEA do not want to know they keep saying that all it will take is a paper excersize to uprate it but Fiat UK say no they can not condone the uprating of the x250 chassis because the braking system would not be right.

One thing that I have found out is that there was TWO of these Sharky L2 models that have the same problem so someone out there is driving around in one of these and one day he could have a big shock.

I can not name the company yet due to the case ongoing sorry for that but I do not want to jeperdise what little chance I have of winning

Hi Tracker what do you know about the case that you mentioned the dealer on the A41

I've told Mickey all I know and/or suspect at this time. It did feature in either MMM or one of the mags at the time which may have been 2004,5 or 6 that a director was banned from holding office and the company was 'dispersed' to overcome this.

If the thread gets pulled now that we know maybe a new one even less specific could be started to maintain continuity?

These two earlier threads describe the problems Mickydripin has had:

The motorhome dealership involved is undoubtedly the same one referred to by Tracker. I don't recall reading in any motorhome magazine that the owner had been jailed, but I was aware of it. It was mentioned by Dave Newell on this forum and I added to the thread by repeating a story I had been told about a confrontation between the dealership's owner and a motorhome buyer outraged by the company's poor service. The thread was rapidly (and deservedly!) deleted by the Forum Moderator.

Micky's ongoing difficulties result from his buying a SEA motorhome built on a Fiat chassis with a lower load-carrying specification to that described in the motorhome manufacturer's brochure. This has got to be a rare occurrence, though (from what Micky says) worryingly not unique where SEA Sharky L2 models are concerned. Whatever happens in the UK motor trade generally (and I'd be interested to learn where JudgeMental's information comes from), I doubt there is another UK motorhome dealership being operated in the peculiar manner Micky describes. Even if there is, I can't see how potential customers can protect themselves satisfactorily.

A primary problem with "naming and shaming" companies is that buyers' experiences may well clash dramatically. In Micky's case it's evidently been a nightmare from Square One, whereas MMM October 2009 contains an article about a Globecar motorhome purchased from the same dealership as Micky used and the buyers seem happy enough.

Firstly - I am so sorry to read about all your troubles Mickey, the older I get the more annoyed i get at the antics of some businesses, I hope you can get some justice eventually.

Reading all that stuff about MAM  weights etc. has made me decide that I'm much better off with a panel van conversion. I wanted a panel van conversion for other reasons but all this weight business is beyond my comprehension.

Losos

Choosing a panel-van conversion is no sure guarantee that a buyer won't fall into exactly the same 'trap' as Micky's in.

It's possible to buy panel-vans that are visually and dimensionally identical, and are powered by exactly the same motors, but have different load-carrying capabilities. If there's no easily-spotted indicator of that capability (in my Transit Mk 6's case its 3500kg chassis is identified by the "350" marking on the cab doors), then the only way to tell the difference will be via the data on the VIN-plate.

noticed on MHF forum in Chausson section. that they allegedly built a particular model on the wrong chassis and there was negligible payload left. So it seems this can happen more then once *-)
