Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Sept. 29

In a vote that ended Sept. 29, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Sept. 24.

Fall winners will receive certificates through the athletic departments about midway through the season. The remaining certificates will be mailed at the end of the season.

The Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners for the 2023-2024 high school sports season.

Ohio football team: Blanchester – Blanchester has won four of its last five after a 46-7 victory over Clermont Northeastern.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team: Lloyd Memorial – The Juggernauts are 6-0 and have yet to allow more than 14 points in a game after beating Newport 45-8.

Boys fall team: Harrison soccer – The Wildcats beat Landmark 4-0 and Northwest 3-1 to stay undefeated at 11-0.

Girls fall team: Sycamore cross country – At the St. Xavier invitational, Sycamore scored 27 points and had six runners in the top 10.

Ohio boys cross country: Andrew Wilcox, Monroe – He won the Fairmont blue race with a time of 15:46.80.

Ohio girls cross country: Megan Ranly, Batavia – She took third place at Seven Hills with a time of 23:31.99.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys cross country: Wyatt Shearer, Walton-Verona – He took third place at the North Central Kentucky Conference Championships with a time of 18:31.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls cross country: Stella Carpenter, Ryle – She took third place at the Williamstown Invitational with a time of 20:38.

Ohio big-school football: Temilade Adesanya, Mason – He rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner from 5 yards out with 38 seconds to play, to lift the Comets over Middletown, 17-14. He totaled nine rushes for 50 yards in the game.

Ohio small-school football: Carson Harris, Batavia – The sophomore caught 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns and threw a pass for a two-point conversion in the Bulldogs’ 51-47 loss to Western Brown.

Northern Kentucky football: Avander Abrams, Lloyd – He had four tackles, two fumble recoveries and a sack in a win over Newport.

Field hockey: Ashley Guy, Ursuline Academy – In a busy week with three games, the junior led the offense with three goals and two assists to help her team beat St. Ursula, Indian Hill and Talawanda.

Boys golf: Jake Wittenauer, Little Miami – Wittenauer had a 69 at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championships, winning the title by three strokes.

Little Miami's Jake Wittenauer, teeing off at the Best of the West Sept. 24, was named the Cincinnati Enquirer golfer of the week for Sept. 29.

Girls golf: Riley Johnson, Lebanon – Johnson shot a 74, having the low score at the ECC tournament as an individual while leading Lebanon to the win.

Ohio big-school boys soccer: Camden Blackwell, Fairfield – He had two goals in a 4-2 win over Edgewood.

Ohio small-school boys soccer: Colton Waldman, New Richmond – The freshman scored three goals in a 4-1 win over Goshen.

Ohio big-school girls soccer: Kate Winiarski, Mercy McAuley – She had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over St. Ursula.

Ohio small-school girls soccer: Alyssa Dewey, Mariemont – The freshman had a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over Batavia.

Northern Kentucky boys soccer: Ivan Potapenko, Villa Madonna – He had both goals in a 2-1 win over Trinity Christian.

Northern Kentucky girls soccer: Kimmie Woeste, Notre Dame – She scored two goals, one off a corner kick and one from a penalty kick, to lift the Pandas to a 3-2 win over Assumption after the Pandas lost 1-0 to the Rockets eight days earlier.

Girls singles tennis player: Payton Ollendick, New Richmond – She won the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference championship at third singles, beating the top seeds.

Girls doubles tennis team: Jess Litster/Zoie Benz, Mount Notre Dame – They won their flight at first doubles in the Coaches Classic.

Ohio big-school volleyball: Peyton Stockhoff, Oak Hills – She had a double-double of 15 digs and 10 kills against Princeton, and nearly had another with 12 digs and eight kills against Wyoming.

Ohio small-school volleyball: Ali Strange, McNicholas – In wins over Badin and Carroll, the freshman had 35 digs and four aces.

Northern Kentucky volleyball: Rebecca Raziano, Villa Madonna – In three wins last week, she totaled 31 assists, 28 digs and two kills.

Boys water polo: Eli Jennings, Sycamore – The senior played a huge role this weekend as one of the main starters in three games at the Packer classic. Jennings scored three goals and had nine steals, helping the Aviators go 2-1 with wins over the No. 3 and No. 5 teams in the state.

Girls water polo: Alexis Klugo, Sycamore – The senior was a force this past weekend at the Milford Invitational with six goals, three assists and five steals over the course of three games. She also had three kick-outs drawn, one of which helped her team win 8-4 against the Cincinnati Mavericks.
