Salary Grade: NC16/ Recruitment Range $54,197.00 - $94,844.00 Annually

This position will serve as the Assistant Traffic Engineer in the Traffic Operations Unit located in Pitt County.  Employee will be responsible for reviewing traffic impact analysis and project plans, performing General Safety and Mobility Traffic Studies, handling necessary coordination and / or inspection for projects under design and construction that the Traffic Unit is overseeing and attending meeting related to these items as needed and will preside over LOGO and TODS program.  This position is responsible for coordinating the engineering principles in the operation and maintenance of traffic control devices in the Division.  This involves performing adjustments as needed and making recommendations and seeking funds for safety and operational improvements.  This position will also conduct other traffic investigations as assigned. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

 Additional Expectations:

Professional engineering skills and knowledge to perform and evaluate investigation such as requests for speed limit modifications, pavement marking modifications and safety studies, etc.  A thorough knowledge of the MUTCD is preferred.  Promote safety and safe working environments.  Ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, personnel, and general public.  Safety toe shoes are needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification: May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
