It's Official: Vasgersian will be Lead Studio Host at MLB Network

Well the rumors are true, Vasgersian is leaving the Padres for the MLB Network, leaving us lonely and afraid.

Lead Studio Host for the MLB Network: Matt Vasgersian, it has a nice ring to it.  I wonder how tough that decision was, he seemed pretty comfortable in a cushy job like he had at the Padres.  Collecting paychecks and praise, goofing off with Grant, living in La Jolla, watching endless hours of Squidbillies, eating nachos for every meal, not a bad gig if you can get it.

I bet there was more than once that he asked himself the same question that Rick Sutcliffe asked him, after a terribly boring loss by the Padres, "Matty! What're you still doing here in San Diego?"

I guess he's letting us all know that we can't live the cush life forever and you've got to start climbing the corporate ladder again, got to grow up, otherwise you'll get stagnant and bored.

Said Vasgersian: "It was every fraternity boy's dream to have a job and be able to do what we did and get paid for it. The only thing that could have made it unpleasant is if I didn't like the people I worked with, but I loved the people I worked with. I almost feel like I have to turn in my hall pass. It was such a great time."

I'm seriously bummed out, because it was always nice knowing that however bad the Padres were that you would still be entertained by watching the Grant - Vasgersian duo.  The games just weren't the same when Vasgersian or Grant were on vacation.

" I have two older sisters, I don't have a brother, but Matt's probably the closest thing," Grant added. "He's going to be missed."

I don't have any sisters, if I did I always imagined they'd be like Matt.

We'd also like to say thanks to Matt for plugging Gaslamp Ball countless times on the telecast and even commenting now and again, those days are over though, you leave the Padres and you're dead to us.  Good luck in Jersey.

If you have Cox Cable you'll be able to see him on MLB Network, Channel 330 on January 1, 2009.
