Wait, missile production is my responsibility?

Oh.

Scintilla posted:

If retreating simply involves reaching the southern map border then every player unit except the Blackjack can escape next turn. The Blackjack might have a bit more difficulty thanks to being further back and all the broken terrain around it.

Could the Blackjack make it by jumping into the river, falling over, and being carried by the currents?

If we get the Thunderbolt pilot as isorla a captive with a certain understanding, this counts as a successful resupply run under the 'Information is ammunition' idiom.

Zawadi cursed to herself as she slid the Blackjack back down the narrow ridge she’d climbed. The ridgeline she’d crested was taller than her Blackjack, and she’d expected an easier slope on the far side—instead, it was equally steep and treacherous, and her overheating Blackjack was responding sluggishly.

She bounced in her command couch as the Blackjack slid down the slope on its heels, and could only hope the sandstone wasn’t tough enough to tear up her leg armor. Fortunately, ‘Mech feet were nearly always solid slabs of armor and stabilizers; and the Blackjack’s slender wedge-shaped feet made decent makeshift skiis.

“I’d gladly trade a little ground speed for some jump jets right now,” she said through a grimace, trying to bring the Blackjack up to speed the moment she reached the canyon floor. Her ‘Mech tottered and protested, fighting her controls for a long moment as the computer stubbornly refused to let her put too much weight on her damaged leg.

“Go!” she shouted to the others, “get out of here! I’m right behind you, but this old prototype’s a deathtrap!”

Zawadi lurched backwards, dodging flights of missiles by stopping short. The slope ahead of her rippled with explosions as most of the Crusaders’ LRMs missed by a margin narrow enough to make the sweat trickling down her back feel cold as ice water. She twisted in place, trying to narrow her Blackjack’s profile; and a heavy autocannon shell that might’ve struck her in the back—or worse—instead shattered armor over the Blackjack’s right breast.

Worse was the flight of SRMs fired from the nearest medium ‘Mech. They missed wide, exploding as they struck the surface of the river and starting the surface ablaze. The water swept the flames downstream, but failed to extinguish them.

Zawadi’s breath caught in her throat. Infernos were a rare sight on the battlefield, their gelled payload was far from inert and hypergolic with most any surface or atmosphere. Or even the lack thereof. Worse, she’d heard horror stories that the payloads tended to shift their center of mass when the missiles fired, making them doubly risky to mount in anything bigger than a two-tube launcher.

And every ‘Mech they faced had at least an SRM six-pack.

Can legged mechs still extract? Because a belly flop into 1124 would get him into the extraction zone, and most weapons can't shoot through the surface of the water.

(I do like his odds in 1226, though. Those LRM-5s look to me like they'd have 8+ to hit, low odds to hit the left leg since they're coming from the right, and, although they might crit something, low odds of completely destroying it unless they both hit there.)
