Various events throughout the year · 12 January 2022

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page.

This year our chosen Charity is Dementia UK, a wonderful charity that provides specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service who give compassionate one-to-one support, guidance, and practical solutions when life gets challenging.

Admiral Nurses help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people around them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days and the energy to enjoy the good days.

Throughout the year we will be collecting regularly in the office and holding special events to raise money, and we hope that our clients, sub-contractors and suppliers will, once again, support teams of WFC staff cycling, running, walking, swimming, or maybe eating their way around Devon, London or their home town.

Please join in and support us.  Dementia touches so many people’s lives. We can help make a difference.

For those of us who are lucky and do not understand what it means to live with dementia, one of the charity’s ambassadors, Judy Parfitt, currently best known for her role in Call the Midwife as Sister Monica Joan, summed it up:

“My husband was with me physically but lost to me in every other way to dementia. My husband became my child.  I am honoured to be an Ambassador for Dementia UK.”

Quotes from other ambassadors:

“I am privileged to be an ambassador for Dementia UK.  Over the years I have been connected with it and I have been more than impressed by the professionalism, commitment and positivity that they bring to those who struggle with the shock and ever-changing demands of having to care for a loved on diagnosed with dementia.  It is a fine organisation fulfilling a vital role…”  Jim Broadbent

“Like so many people, I have had personal experience of loved ones being diagnosed with varying degrees of dementia…. I’m so glad to be an ambassador for this great charity and to promote their wonderful Admiral Nurses programme which is truly a lifeline for many people.  In supporting Dementia UK, I feel we can all make a very positive difference.”  Phyllis Logan aka Mrs Carson (nee Hughes) Downton Abbey

“My late husband’s diagnosis of young onset dementia was devastating to our little family, and I have never felt so frightened and alone.  In such dark times, Dementia UK, with its wonderful Admiral nurses, is a glimmer of light, offering information, support and guidance.  The work that Dementia UK does is powerful and positive, and I am so proud and honoured to be one of its ambassadors.” Lorelei King
