Salary Grade: NC09 / Recruitment Range $38,516.00 - $67,404.00.  

This position will serve as an Engineering Technician II within the District 1 Permitting Office. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT standards for driveway connection construction, encroachment installation and subdivision street construction. It will also monitor the illegal use of highway right-of-way for signs, utilities and private activities.  This position will assist with collecting field data needed for the review of driveway permits, site plansutility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plansand road additions/abandonments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person, operate personal computer to prepare documents and maintain databases. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather and will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience in conducting independent, moderately complex inspections, with limited supervision.
  • Skill in evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
  • Experience in maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
  • General knowledge of surveying.
  • Experience in utilizing applications (apps) on iPads and computer programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
